COASTAL COWBOY RULES AT THE COAST

By Graham Potter | Saturday, October 17, 2026

The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained Coastal Cowboy scored his second win in only four starts since relocating to the Sears Training Partnership when he annihilated his opposition in a Class 1 Handicap over 1800m at the Gold Coast on October 17, romping in 4.89 lengths clear of the runner-up.

The fact that the son of So You Think, who was racing second-up here, started at the easy-to-back odds of $8.50 made the victory all the more satisfying.

As the race winning margin implies, the race was already a ‘no contest’ before the finish line as Coastal Cowboy put the race well and truly to bed inside the final 150m.
Jockey Danny Peisley took his time early after jumping from the widest draw (barrier nine out of nine), but he had too much horse underneath him to wait much longer approaching the home turn and, after scouting wide towards the outside running rail to find the favoured ground he was looking for, Peisley set Coastal Cowboy about his business.

The Sears trained runner still had work to do in the first half of the straight but, under Peisley’s urgings, Coastal Cowboy showed smart acceleration and sustained a strong run all the way to the line to, ultimately, leave his rivals chasing shadows as they fought out the minor placings.

The lightly raced Coastal Cowboy … this was only the four-year-olds fifth career start … had now won twice of soft going (over 1420m and 1800m) as he starts to build a useful racing profile.
