PAT WEBSTER, MARK DU PLESSIS ON A ROLL

Toowoomba based trainer Pat Webster and jockey Mark Du Plessis are having a hot run of form in town and that momentum carried through to another win at Eagle Farm on Saturday when the two-year-old gelding Apostle took out the first race on the card.

Last Saturday the Webster / Du Plessis combination emerged in the role of villains as far as most punters were concerned, striking at double figure odds with both Restonica and Dr Farthing, at $16 and $21 respectively.

And they were at it again here with Apostle who, although he started as a well-supported $3.80 second favourite, the stable once again effectively arrived to spoil the party of the followers of the favourite when Apostle stayed on long enough to thwart the effort of the Martist, the Tony Gollan trained $1.60 race favourite who the betting market strongly suggested would make it two wins from two starts.

Martist had saluted at similar restrictive odds of $1.55 on debut, but this time he found one better and had to settle for second place.

All credit to Webster, who clearly know what horses to bring to town … only eleven of Webster’s last fifty runners have raced in town … and how to get the best out of them.

Credit too to Du Plessis who is riding up a treat at the moment.

Du Plessis rode that Webster trained double last Saturday. He rode a double at the Sunshine Coast on Friday night and then got Apostle home to put his name on the scoreboard again early at the Saturday meeting.
