FROM THE GOLD COAST ON SATURDAY. HOW THEY ALL MANAGED TO ESCAPE SERIOUS INJURY BEGGARS BELIEF

By Graham Potter | Monday, April 22, 2024

Anyone think jockeys are paid too much?

Ok great ... not too many of you. That’s good, because you are wrong!

Anyone think strappers don’t get paid enough?

Almost all of you. That’s even better, because you are right!

Seldom have these two basic premises been proved so conclusively in one incident as it was with what transpired prior to the running of the third race at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Thankfully, the horse (Woolmar), the rider (Rikki Jamieson) and the strapper (Danielle Sullivan) all walked away from the incident with little more than slight bruising.

How they managed to do that beggar’s belief, but we are all thankful for that outcome.

What happened in barely a couple of seconds also provided a prime example of the old adage ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’.

So, I’ll stop typing now, and let the pictures do the talking ... suffice to say the half dozen photos starting with photo number 4 in the sequence have got to be the scariest photos you are likely to see from racetrack this season.

To repeat .. horse rider and strapper are all fine!
