RHILL JULY 17 - MR UNFORGETTABLE BACK TO HIS BEST

By Garry Legg | Sunday, July 18, 2010

Rosehill Gardens, July 17, 2010.
Track - Dead (5). Rail - out 6m.
Myer Winter Stakes (Listed - Quality - 3yo’s and upwards) -1500m.
Margins - Long Head, Nose. Time: 1-30.58.
1 Mr Unforgettable ($14); 2 Ghostmilk ($4.80); 3 Adnocon ($4 favourite).

It was an even jump away and Mr Unforgettable showed moderate speed early and was trapped out three deep for the first 500m, but with a long straight run apprentice Blake Spriggs had plenty of time to work over.

By the time the field reached the 1000m Mr Unforgettable slotted into the one out, one back position and had Adnocon racing on his inside.

Black Routine and O’Crikey vied for the lead in the early part before O’Crikey maintained his rails spot and took up the running on his own near the 1000m. O’Crikey quickened the tempo from the 800m and by the home turn had opened up a break of about four lengths on Adnocon and a tiring Black Routine.

By this stage Spriggs had angled Mr Unforgettable out to clear running so he could give chase.

O’Crikey fought hard, but by the 200m Adnocon had raced to the lead, with Mr Unforgettable about a half length behind, but making ground. Mr Unforgettable joined Adnocon at the 100m and Blake Shinn on Adnocon and Spriggs, staged a great battle with Mr Unforgettable edging clear to give the youngster a memorable fourth winner for the day.

Ghostmilk, who came from well back, split the combatants to take out second place. Adnocon had to settle for third.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Kevin Moses: ‘’Yeh, we thought he’d run very well. As I’ve said, he went to Brisbane and we were trying to get him ready for the Stradbroke and he got very sick, so you know, he’s back going well now.

“He’ll go on from here, yeh. He’s a nice horse. We’ll just take it race by race. We’ll find somewhere for him. The owners asked me today, could we put him over 2000m, so we might have to try that to keep them happy.

“The kid rode him perfect … exactly how we asked to ride him. He’s riding very well that boy."

Jockey Blake Spriggs (who completed four wins for the day): ‘’I’m a bit speechless here. I sort of had to push Blake Shinn onto the fence and got a lovely run, one, one. Mr. Moses has done a great job with him and brought him back after having a virus and he stuck to his task.

“I always knew I knew I was going to get Adnecon it was just a matter of what was coming behind me.”

PRICES:
Winner (Mr Unforgettable): 14.00
Favourite (Adnocon): 4.00. Finished third.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Ghostmilk, which was withdrawn from an interstate race the previous week due to a suspected insect bite, was examined on arrival at the course by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start.

Gergis was held up for a run in the early part of the straight.

B Shinn, rider of Adnocon, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in over the final stages when insufficiently clear of Gergis, which was improving to his inside, resulting in Gergis having to be checked and further resulting in O'Crikey, which was racing to the inside of Gergis, having to also be checked passing the finishing line.

B Shinn's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 25 July 2010 and to expire on Sunday, 1 August 2010, on which day he may ride.
