WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, OCTOBER 14, 2023

By Darren Winningham | Friday, October 13, 2023

EAGLE FARM this week – the second weekend of ten races. It was pretty good last weekend.

The track rated 'Good.' The rail is out 0.5 metres for the entire circuit. The forecast is for hot weather for the weekend – that’s both the racing and the weather warming up!

Time to look at the program.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

A BM80 over 2200 metres – I think I read somewhere that OZ LOTTO is $30 million next week – more chances of winning that I reckon!

Annabel Neasham won the QLD Cup last weekend by sneaking a runner up to QLD and taking home the cash. She has another one in here – Little Mix (6) and Ryan Maloney will ride. Went around last start in a Group 3 race at Rosehill and was working home nicely. Back in grade here he looks well placed.

Stuart Kendrick’s stable continues to thrive. A rough chance to his runner Enuff He Said (4). Stepped up in grade in the Toowoomba Cup and was working home well – maybe could cause an upset – Jake Bayliss will ride.

Selections:

6 – Little Mix
4 – Enuff He Said
2 – Savvy Lad
3 – Namakwa

Race 2

Only six runners to face the starter here.

Steven O’Dea and Matt Hoysted, who train Uncommon James who was awarded the QLD horse of the Year last weekend, send out Party For Two (1) who resumes here. A solid win in a recent barrier trial and the claim for the in-form apprentice in form Cejay Graham will see the filly get in well here.

Flag Hall (2) is trained by Lee Freedman – has won his past two starts. He did win here at a midweek meeting first up and then won on his home track at the Gold Coast on the poly track – he is up in grade, however, must be respected – Ryan Maloney takes the ride.

Selections:

1 – Party For Two
2 – Flag Hall
4 – Upstart Legend
3 – Golden Decade

Race 3

The first leg of the early Quaddie with ten races on the card.

The two-year-old runners step out here and Les Ross has 7 of the 15 runners.

Last weekend Munce Racing stopped the Les Ross Racing dominance of the two-year-old races early in the season. This week they clash in what I think should be a battle of the M & Ms! Munce versus Mishani!

The first starter for Munce Racing Boomroux (3) has been trialling well and has been well supported since the markets have opened. Justin Huxtable will ride – he won a recent trial on this Spirit of Boom colt. He looks well placed – just some concerns with barrier 12.

Mishani Rocks (1) won the Pat O’Shea Plate in Toowoomba on debut – an impressive winner there. Bubba Tilley retains the ride – has drawn barrier 11 – will be right in this race.

One of the stable mates is Mishani Suspect (9) with Mark Du Plessis to ride – this runner has had some solid trials – he could be the testing material of these more favoured runners and he has drawn well in barrier 3.

Selections:

3 – Boomroux
1 – Mishani Rocks
9 – Mishani Suspect
5 – Pride of Savabella

Race 4

BM75 over a mile.

The Barry Lockwood trained Titanium (10) flew home late over 1400 metres along the rail last time. I think he will get the mile on that effort – Justin Huxtable will ride him again. Nice each way odds at $6.

Magic Conqueror (6) won two starts ago at Doomben over the mile. Then went up the mountain to Toowoomba and after leading got run down late. He has never won here on this track but I just think he can run well here.

Aton of Delight (8) is trained by Glenn Thornton and will be ridden by Damien Thornton. A solid second last time out here at nice odds – maybe can repeat the dose and fill a place.

Selections:

10 – Titanium
6 – Magic Conqueror
8 – Aton of Delight
3 – Hyde
Rough chance – (7) Acrophobic

Race 5

Class 3 over 1300 metres.

Zaher (9) has grabbed my attention here second up for his new stable – Gary Duncan. A gelding originally from New Zealand, I thought his run first up for his new stable looked like he needed more ground. He got too far back over 1000 metres at Toowoomba first up – look for a huge improvement here with Ben Thompson riding.

Micro (3) ran a solid second at Toowoomba fresh up from a spell. He got too far back on that occasion, however, was storming home late over 1000 metres. He is trained by Dale Groves and Bubba Tilley will ride. He has a solid second up record and loves this distance.

Gollan Racing has some chances as well with Blakmax (4) and Argyle Pink (11).

Kelly Schweida Racing may have a rough chance in April In Augusta (10) with Cejay Graham riding. She won two midweek races here prior to going to Toowoomba – I do not think she raced well on that track. Back to a surface where she he won two starts; she could prove to be a blowout chance at $9.

Selections:

9 – Zaher
3 – Micro
10 – April In Augusta
4 – Blakmax
Rough chance – (11) Argyle Pink

Race 6

Last leg of the early Quaddie. BM68 over 1600 metres.

Trained by Stuart Kendrick, Sebring Girl )12) stepped up to 1830 metres after winning here at her previous start over a mile. She didn’t get the extra distance. Back in grade and distance she looks well placed with Ryan Maloney to ride – superb value as well at $14.

Rising Pacific (14) won at Ipswich last time over the mile. The natural progression in grade should see him competitive again. Has drawn nicely so Damien Thornton should be able to provide him with the run of the race.

Mission of Love (17) was unlucky last time out – got too far back in the running. She worked home late over 1500 metres – the extra distance will suit – Jaden Lloyd will ride her again for Sheila Laxon and John Symons.

If you want to play wide, keep safe the Laming Racing runner – My Pins (10). Only a lightly raced mare who resumed with a solid win at Beaudesert over 1400 metres – she has performed well over longer distances – Angela Jones will ride her - has drawn barrier 3.

Some rough chance to Evocator (3) – Flying Joy (4) and Oakfield Prince (7).

Selections:

12 – Sebring Girl
14 – Rising Pacific
17 – Mission Of Love
10 – My Pins
Rough chances – (3) Evocator (4) Flying Joy & (7) Oakfield Prince

Race 7

First leg of the Quaddie – open field here over 1000 at Class 3 grade.

Some serious speed in this race.

Tony Gollan runner Devastating (2) meets some of the opposition he met at Toowoomba better here at the weights. Ryan Maloney will ride. The leaders will set a scorching tempo for mine and this runner will be sitting in behind them smoking his pipe awaiting the chance to fly past them late!

Compassionate (10) from the Barry Lockwood stable won last time at Toowoomba in an impressive fashion. He beat the easing favourite Steady Ready (10) fair and square, however meets him worse at the weights this week.

Sears Racing will be looking for Steady Ready (10) to improve second up with Angela Jones to ride him this week. I'm just concerned that there are some other horses in the race that appear to want to lead, and this may place pressure on him throughout the running.

The Face (7) is resuming for a new stable – David Vandyke – Justin Huxtable will ride. He has been smashed since the markets opened firming from $12 to $6.50 – this stable has a high strike rate when they put their money on – keep safe.

Selections:

2 – Devastating
10 – Compassionate
6 – Steady Ready
7 – The Face

Race 8

Open class race over 1000 metres.

Rex Lipp superstar from the Winter Carnival resumes here – Cifrado (2). This distance is probably too short for him, however, he gets back in his races and flies home. This small field should mean he will be having a decent crack at them late – maybe his superior class will see him posting a win. Damien Thornton retains his association with the colt.

Louise White trains Hakkai Maru (10) with Jake Bayliss to ride. She had a freshen up and resumed with a solid win at the Sunshine Coast. She is second up here and has drawn the rails – could be a serious chance at $12 to upset these more favoured runners. Down in the weights appeals as well.

Nashira (11) trained by O’Dea and Hoysted won here two starts ago. Then went up to Class 6 grade and never fired a shot. Ben Thompson will ride again – maybe they may ride her a little more forward here.

Lime Soda (13) is having her second start for the Adam Campton yards. Down on the minimum with Angela Jones to ride – she may just be a blow out chance for the new stable.

Selections:

2 – Cifrado
10 – Hakkai Maru
11 – Nashira
13 – Lime Soda
Rough chance (1) Zoushack

Race 9

Class 6 over 1200 metres

The Chris Waller Racing runner Kir Royale (11) was solid winning here two starts ago and then really struggled at Toowoomba – drawn wide and was used up early to lead and then faded – maybe back here she can get some better luck and be in the finish.

The Robert Heathcote pair are going to be competitive. National Choice (9) has a solid record and had a recent solid hit out in a barrier trial. Mark Du Plessis will ride him again – he has had three sits on his for 2 wins and a 1 third.

Ekaterina (6) finished last when resuming – she was vetted after the race and found to be lame – so there were excuses. She is undefeated second up – 3 starts for 3 wins – striking statistics and she does race well on this surface.

Keep your eyes on the Gillian Heinrich runner – Beaux Rumble (3) who won first up midweek at Doomben – Casey Waddell to ride with the three kilo claim. He normally leads and goes hard – this may set the race up for both Robert Heathcote runners – especially Ekaterina (6). This runner has been smashed in the betting from $10 to $6.50.

Selections:

11 – Kir Royale
6 – Ekaterina
9 – National Choice
3 – Beaux Rumble

Race 10

BM 80 over 1400 metres.

Steven O’Dea and Matt Hoysted are well represented here with Arnaqueur (6) and Secret Tales (9).

Arnaqueur (6) was heavily backed at his last start at Toowoomba and was beaten by a local runner. No real excuses other than he was second up and he does have a horrific second up record. His third up record is not that flash either - $2.25 is too short for me.

The stable mate is Secret Tales (9) who resumed over 1200 metres at Toowoomba. She likes the longer distances and 1400 second up is right up her alley. Second up record is tremendous with 3 wins from 4 starts – I see Kirk Matheson will ride her – poorly drawn in barrier 13 – she gets back in her running but there is some solid speed in the race so she should be flying home late.

The Chris Munce yards are in a purple patch of form. They have Dark Harmony (10) in the race. Two starts ago won over 1400 metres and then stepped up to 1500 metres last time out and maybe didn’t like the extra distance.

Look for Mark Du Plessis to jump and lead here – hopefully, getting some cheap sectionals and holding them out late. It is hard to split my top two selections to be fair.

Corey and Kylie Geran train Our Magnus (8) who was solid in the Weetwood on his home track. He does go well here and will be ridden in behind the speed. Do not overlook this runner – Gary Geran will ride.

Selections:

9 – Secret Tales
10 – Dark Harmony
6 – Arnaqueur
8 – Our Magnus
Rough chances – (12) Vetta Velocita

Looks like a one-on-one battle with Damien Thornton and Ryan Maloney with a rough chance to Mark Du Plessis– I think at the value Damien Thornton may just get the job done in a close battle.

WINNO V FLEMO

The battle continues with WINNO and FLEMO. WINNO got the win last weekend – however, we were in good form with FLEMO back on deck – we tipped 5 winners between us! With the footy behind us – maybe I should focus on the cricket or something! Remember, I will post our selections and any late mail on Facebook on Saturday morning.
