| WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, AUGUST 12, 2023
By Darren Winningham | Friday, August 11, 2023

EAGLE FARM this week with the track rated ‘Good’ and with the rail is out 7 metres for the entire circuit.
Good luck to the Matildas – the Aussie Women’s soccer team playing at Suncorp – hopefully it will be frog’s legs and croissants for dinner on Saturday night!

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

 Race 1

 Selections:

 8 – Vodka Martini
 9 – Park Avenue
 7 – Le Melody
 1 – Gemelon Bolt

 Race 2

Class 3 race over 1400 metres.

Bettcha The Crown (1) comes off an impressive win in the Grafton Guineas last start. Drops back in distance, but has had a four week freshen up – if he performs like he did in that run he will be difficult to hold out for trainer Desleigh Forster. Will be ridden by Damien Thornton.

Kanazawa (3) has the blinkers going on – was caught wide in his second run for the Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted yards – will be better for that run and will be sure to make his presence felt. Boris Thornton will ride.

The Thornton brothers will battle out for mine in this race.

 Selections:

 1 – Bettcha The Crown
 3 – Kanazawa
 5 – Satay Chicken
 8 – Matthew Flinders
Rough chance – (12) Sunset Soiree

 Race 3

 Class 6 over 1500 metres.

The winning trainer (Tony Gollan) and jockey (Jimmy Orman) from the QLD Metro premierships combine here with Ashgrove (4). This runner was smashed late in the betting at Doomben and was beaten late. He has a solid third up record with two wins from three starts.

Gaius (11) flew home last start over 1350 metres – the way the Mark Currie trained gelding hit the line last time out would suggest that the extra distance is right up his alley. Taylor Marshall will ride – great each way odds - $10.

 Selections:

 4 – Ashgrove
 11 – Gaius
 5 – Eaglemont
 12 – Enterprise Mia

 Race 4

A distance race over 2206 metres.

The race, for me, is between the last start winners Carbonetti (4) and Chayse N Artie (5).

Carbonetti (4) led all the way last start – trained by Chris Waller and Jimmy Orman will ride.

Chayse N Artie is trained on the Gold Coast by Les Kelly and Sean Cormack will be riding him again. Just think that this lightly raced runner may have had some improvement still left in him.

 Selections:

 5 – Chayse N Artie
 4 – Carbonetti
 8 – Roller Coaster
 1 – Sky Out
 Rough chance – (12) Chernak

 Race 5

Last leg of the early Quaddie – hopefully we are still alive. BM90 over 1835 metres.

I am tipping a Chris Waller trifecta!

Tony Be (10) carried a massive weight last time out. He goes down in weight, however, up in class – I just think that the drop down to the minimum and the claim for apprentice Cejay Graham will see him getting the job done.

 Selections:

 10 – Tony Be
 7 – Shopping Espirit
 8 – Wairere Falls
 9 – Nikau Spur
Rough chances – (1) Fast Talking

 Race 6

First Leg of the Quaddie. Class 6 over 1200 metres.

 Selections:

 7 – Crazy Train
 2 – Safework
 3 – Ned’s Gully
 5 – Jemeldi
Rough chance – (10) Sea Ripple

 Race 7

First leg of the Treble. An Open race over 1000 metres. Small field now with several early scratchings.

 Selections:

 1 – The Bopper
 3 – Rubiquitous
 6 – Mass Destruction
 5 – Wisdom Of Water

 Race 8

 Three-year-olds here over 1000 metres.

I like the two Chris Munce runners here. The favoured runner is Miss Coota (1) currently at around the $5 mark – Justin Huxtable will reunite with her. He has ridden her three times for two wins – a recent barrier trial would suggest that she is ready for a huge effort first up.

The stable mate is The Player (8) who resumes also – has won a recent barrier trial and has been gelded. I think that at $31 this is the runner to back, even just each way with Kyle Wilson Taylor to ride. Gets in nicely at the weights and despite the wide barrier should get 4 or 5 pairs back and run on late.

 Selections:

 8 – The Player
 1 – Miss Coota
 3 – Shot Of Whiskey
 6 – Highbar

 Race 9

The last race of the day – a massive field over 1600 metres.

 Selections:

 19 – Desert Mist
 10 – Rosovo
 18 – Esky
 8 – Enuff He Said
 Rough chance – (16) Yangari

 Jockeys Challenge

Jimmy Orman, Kyle Wilson Taylor, Cejay Graham, Andrew Mallyon and Ben Thompson all have a solid book of rides – looks like Orman or KWT may get home in a close battle.

Early Quaddie (races 2 to 5)

 1,3,5 / 4,5,11 / 4,5,8 / 7,8,10 - cost is $81 to $1.

 1,3 / 4,11 / 4,5 / 7,10 - cost is $16 to $1.

 2,5,7 / 1,3,6 /1,3,8 / 10,18,19 - cost is $81 to $1

 Treble (races 7 to 9)

 1,3,6 / 1,3,8 / 10,18,19 - cost is $27 $to $1.
