PINN NOT LETTING CONTROVERSY SLOW HIM DOWN

By Graham Potter | Friday, June 23, 2023

The talents of emerging apprentice Wiremu Pinn, whose name has been front and centre in headlines in reports covering the controversial, incorrect allocation of his weight claim by racing authorities when he moved across from New Zealand to Victoria … a mistake made through absolutely no fault of his own it must be emphasized … will be on display at Caulfield on Saturday.

Pinn will head to Caulfield as only one of three riders who has a full book of rides over the nine-race card … a fact which stands as a testament to both the positive impression his riding ability has created in a short space of time in Australia and the ensuing strong support he is enjoying from local trainers.

Pinn’s nine rides have been secured from no less than eight stables … underlining the wide spread of trainers ready to give the young rider an opportunity to make his mark on the local scene.

Matthew Dale, Michael Kent, Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Smiley Chan, Mark and Levi Kavanagh, Anthony and Sam Freedman, Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr) and Leon and Troy Corstens are all in Pinn’s corner on Saturday.

Pinn, who is currently on a three-month loan to trainer Michael Kent, already has the distinction of having a Group 1 win behind his name having triumphed on the Team Rogerson trained Mascarpone in the Group 1 WFA Classic at Otaki back in February 2022.
