SKIRT THE LAW GOLDEN SLIPPER BOUND

By Graham Potter | Tuesday, January 24, 2023

Skirt The Law, the unbeaten two-year-old filly who slammed her rivals in no uncertain terms in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast last week ... will take up the Golden Slipper challenge with the world’s richest two-year-old race now being confirmed as Skirt The Law’s next major goal by trainer Tony Gollan.

Gollan was bullish about Skirt The Law’s Magic Millions chances going into the race, but she still appeared to leave him in awe of her performance with the resounding manner in which achieved victory.

“She is a bloody good filly, and I can’t wait to take her down south and show her off in Sydney,” said Gollan post-race ... a statement delivered with an expression and body language that exuded sheer pride.

That comment, however, was made in a moment when he was flushed with success, and Gollan did go back to the drawing board for the next couple of days, while he allowed Skirt The Law to have a short break away from the stable, taking his time before making a final decision on Skirt The Law’s immediate schedule.

Now it is officially ‘game on’ for Skirt The Law’s Golden Slipper assignment with Gollan pencilling in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes ... with the Reisling Stakes being a back-up second option if required (they are three weeks and two weeks out from the Golden Slipper respectively) ... as the proposed lead-in run to the Golden Slipper itself.

Prior to her Magic Millions success, Skirt The Law won on debut by 2.75 lengths and followed that up with a second successive win by a 5.28 length margin, a combination of results which already marked her as one to watch ... with her Magic Millions win now taking her reputation to a whole new level.

Ryan Maloney had ridden Skirt The Law in all three starts.
