MM SALE UNDER STARTERS ORDERS

By Dan Costello | Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Magic Millions officials would have to be happy judging by the amount of people attending the inspection days leading up to their premier yearling sale which kicks off at the Gold Coast tomorrow.

High profile trainers Gai Waterhouse and Anthony Cummings were seen to be hurriedly moving from block to block to inspect their choice of yearlings while local trainers were also prominent in the pre-sale activity with the likes of Alan Bailey, Brian Wakefield, Bruce Hill and Kelly Doughty casting their eyes over several lots.

As with all yearling sales there are some showstoppers. A standout character at the Magic Millions for 2010 is Lot No 141 … a cheeky Black or Brown colt by Lonhro out of New Zealand mare Comeinspina.

The colt was attracting a large audience when being paraded and many compared him to being very similar to Denman as a yearling. It will be remembered that Denman graduated to Group 1 winning status in only his fifth start when winning the Golden Rose.

Denman current race record stands at six victories (which all came in succession) from eight starts. His stake earnings of $940000 accrued during that time is the carrot on which all sales companies are built.

Lonhro is also the sire of O’Lonhro and Deer Valley who will both be competing on Magic Million Race Day. Lot 141 will enter the sale ring around 4pm on Wednesday afternoon.

It’s all systems go for a flurry of money!
