IPSW NOV 17 - BORAYME BOLTS IN

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Ipswich, November 17, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - out 9m 1600-1200; - out 10m 1200-finish.
Maiden Handicap (C & G) - 1100m. Time: 1-05.64.
1 Borayme; 2 That'swhatyouget; 3 Tamose.

The Trevor Bailey trained Borayme turned the race into a procession when he bounded away from his opposition over the final 200m to win every bit as easily as the three length margin suggests.

The colt showed good gate speed to sit in second spot, just off the leader Our Texas Lad until moving up to apply pressure on the front-runner on straightening. That quickly became an uneven contest as Borayme wasted little time in asserting his authority.

Our Texas Lad weakened and fell away. Thatswhatyouget and Tamose ran on from behind, but their chase was always only going to earn a consolation prize as the contest, in essence, was over long before the winner crossed the line.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Trevor Bailey: “Look, it’s the first time he’s had things go his own way. The first few runs he had he struck those wet tracks and he wasn’t ready for it. The other day (when first-up at Ballina) it was a dead track again. It was almost slow.

“This time was the first time we got him in the right race where he got a dry track and everything sort of went our way. I think he’s always shown ability ... he’s not very big ... but he’s always shown ability and this was his first chance to show it. He got to the line very strongly and was drawing away from them. I’m very pleased with him.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Borayme): 6.00 steady.
Favourite (Tamose): 2.30 out to 2.40. Finished third.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Rockin Riley (W. Clasohm) was slow to begin. Vote For Pedro (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with Into The Dark (A. Merritt), which had been marginally slow to begin.
Galena (P. Wolfgram) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in Pure Devil (B. Stewart) and, Tamose (S. Katsidis) and That'swhatyouget (M. Hellyer) being hampered.

Approaching the 900m, Tamose (S. Katsidis), which was racing greenly, shifted in and away from That’swhatyouget (M. Hellyer), which shifted in slightly. This resulted in Tamose having to be checked to avoid the heels of Galena (P. Wolfgram).Near the 700m, Tamose (S. Katsidis), which continued to race greenly, had to be checked when it improved on to the heels of That’swhatyouget. Rockin Riley (W. Clasohm), which was following, shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

Rounding the home turn, Vote For Pedro was inclined to lay out and became unbalanced. Pure Devil (B. Stewart) was held up and unable to improve approaching and rounding the home turn. Tamose raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

Apprentice M. Hellyer reported that That’swhatyouget was inclined to hang in throughout the race and as a result he was unable to ride that gelding out in his normal manner.

J. Byrne, rider of Vote For Pedro, explained that the horse was inclined to hang out throughout and in the middle stages bumped Galena on a number of occasions. J. Byrne added that, in his view, Vote For Pedro would race better in blinkers. A post race veterinary examination of Vote For Pedro revealed that horse to have been galloped on and had superficial lacerations to the off-fore leg and near-hind leg.
