GETTING READY FOR FWD CHAMPIONS RACEDAY

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, April 21, 2022

FWD CHAMPIONS RACE DAY 2022

Yet again WINNO and Australians - well all Internationals - are banned from travelling to Hong Kong for this wonderful meeting featuring three Group 1 races which will take place at Sha Tin on Sunday

The first of them is the HK$20 million G1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m) – race 6 on the program. The second will be HK$20 million G1 FWD Champions Mile (1600m) – race 8 on the program and finally the HK$25 million (Group 1) FWD QEII Cup (2000m) will round off the wonderful day’s racing for the Hong Kong Jockey Club at Sha Tin.

There will be no international representatives for FWD Champions Day – no crowds and no international horses as Hong Kong continues to struggle with COVID 19.

It is no fun not being able to go to Hong Kong and catch up with the many friends that I have made over the years, but you must respect the Hong Kong government's restrictions and applaud the resilience of the Hong Kong Jockey Club throughout this tough period to keep going with their own protocols to permit racing to continue.

The strict protocols that are in place for racing participants have kept racing going. – turnover continues to be constant despite patrons not being able to attend the track.

Hopefully things will get back to “normal” soon and we will be able to travel to Hong Kong and experience the wonderful racing at Sha Tin and Happy Valley. For those who have never travelled to Hong Kong and experienced horse racing there … you should take the opportunity to do so when you can.

when they open up again and it is safe to travel, I will be one of the first to book flights and accommodation and head to Hong Kong to support the economy and the Hong Kong Jockey Club!
