WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, NOVEMBER 6, 2021

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, November 4, 2021

Eagle Farm this weekend. The third meeting in a week! This weekend with the track rated “good” and this time the rail is out 8 metres for the entire circuit. Horses leading or close to the speed have had some advantages in the past when the rail is out this far. Small fields this weekend – so I will try and keep it brief – only 8 races – seems to be little value as well.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

I do like the recent trial win of the Chris Munce trained Suenito (1) who will be ridden by Jimmy Orman. A son of the good sprinter Whittington – looks like he could race well here on debut – great odds as well at $6.

The Danny Bougoure filly Better Golightly (3) won a trial on the Gold Coast in nice fashion. They have come for this runner since the markets have opened – Michael Cahill will ride.

Selections:

1 – Suenito
3 – Better Golightly
6 – Mishani Mistress
4 – Even Now

Race 2

A small field of seven runners to face the starter over 1400 metres.

So Wandji (1) slayed them last time out for trainer Tom Dougall and Larry Cassidy. Cannot seeing them beating him here – unless the track plays any part in it.

The Heathcote pair of Phantom Court (7) and Danezel (3) did run placings last time out behind So Wandji (1).

Selections:

1 – Go Wandji
7 – Phantom Court
3 – Danezel
6 – Extreme Jewel

Race 3

Only eight runners.

Becandleni (6) is on the quick back up after a barnstorming effort on the Gold Coast for Les Kelly – winning by over six lengths at this distance! Michael Cahill will ride this weekend. She has had two goes at Eagle Farm for no placings – I am not certain she is a good thing as the markets have her.

If you want something to knock off the favourite maybe the Matthew Dunn Racing trained Stuck With You (4), who has a win here and is coming back from some recent runs in Sydney to a much easier race to win – Baylee Nothdurft will ride.

Selections:

6 – Becandleni
4 – Stuck With You
1 – Way Beyond
8 – Continuation

Race 4

1000 metre sprint here.

The Tony Gollan pair have the race between them for mine.

Shamaton (6), who will be ridden by Ryan Maloney, was very unlucky last time out when beaten by the stable mate Lyrical Girl who was given a peach of a ride by Jim Byrne. I think he gets the chance to return to the winners stall this weekend.

The stable mate Vaporizing (7) was defeated last time out when heavily backed at Ipswich. Probably needs some luck here to knock off the more fancied Shamaton (6) – Stephanie Thornton will ride.

Selections:

6 – Shamaton
7 – Vaporizing
5 – Frozen In Time
1 – Wudabg Blade

Race 5

Only eight races today – first leg of the Quaddie.

Rob Heathcote has two strong chances here. Rayjen (7) who looks like the likely leader and will be hard to run down – Taylor Marshall will ride. Could he set it up for the back markers here? Sergeant Silva (2) is to be ridden by Leah Kilner and will resume here after an eight-week break - could cause an upset.

It’s All Talk (4) was second up last time out for Steven O’Dea & Matt Hoysted. Just think the tempo of the race didn’t suit this filly and, back to a small field where there looks like there is some speed engaged, I expect Jaden Lloyd to probably stick to the rail early and ride for luck in the small field.

Selections:

7 – Rayjen
4 – It’s All Talk
2 – Sergeant Silva
1 – Invisible Tears

Race 6

Tough race – several chances. First leg of the Treble.

At Witz End (3) is a model of consistency for trainer Owen Glue. This weekend he has elected to put Jaden Lloyd on and claim 2 kilograms. He has never raced on this surface – but I think that, due to him racing on the speed in most of his other wins, he looks ideally placed here this weekend.

Ligulate (2) flew home last time when second up from a spell for Cody Morgan and Andrew Mallyon. The run was good – not sure of the depth of the form out of that race. He has won here and will be well suited.

Good chances to Gollan Racing’s Tokoriki Lad (6) and Edmonds Racing runner – Peppi La Few (9).

Selections:

3 – At Witz End
2 – Ligulate
6 – Tokoriki Lad
9 – Peppi La Few

Race 7

Looks like a battle of the Toowoomba trainers here.

In the blue corner – For My Annie (2) trained by Lindsay Hatch, ridden by Brad Stewart. Last weekend won on his home track and is on the quick back up. He will probably be handy – second or third in the running. His effort behind Acrobatic (Race 8 today) was very good three weeks ago on this track and his win last weekend was solid.

In the red corner is the Kevin Kemp trained Five Oxford (3). He trained a winner last weekend here as well. Maybe two in a row for Kempy! This gelding gets the conditions to suit and regular rider Taylor Marshall is riding well.

Prinny’s Success resumed with a barnstorming effort at Doomben a fortnight ago – she does have a poor second up record which is my only concern. Jake Bayliss retains the ride.

Selections:

2 – For My Annie
3 – Five Oxford
6 – Prinny’s Success
9 – Nicci’s Spirit

Race 8

Last race of the day. This is very open – could be a rough result.

I like the Chris Munce Racing trained Centrefire (12), who was scratched from race 4 for this race, to continue her winning way. She won here last time out racing on the speed and giving nothing else a chance – Larry Cassidy rode her then and keeps the ride this weekend.

Acrobatic (6) got the job done last time out here – a jockey change with Jimmy Orman to take the ride. He thrives on this Eagle Farm surface and will sit probably two pairs back and race handy – looks ideally placed and will be hitting the line hard late. He is trained by Kelly Schweida.

Tycoon Evie (11) resumed here three weeks ago for Rex Lipp & Nick Hahn Racing. She looked like she needed the run. Worked home well over 1000 metres which was too short for her. She likes to jump – settle – find her feet and storm home late. This weekend over 1200 metres and second up, she could improve sharply. Mark Du Plessis will continue his association with this good mare.

Steven O’Dea & Matt Hoysted train Wonderful Riri (5) and Tumbler Ridge (1). They are both resuming and could sprint well – keep safe.

Selections:

12 – Centrefire
6 – Acrobatic
11– Tycoon Evie
5 – Wonderful Riri.
Rough chances – (1) Tumbler Ridge
