WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, OCTOBER 16, 2021

By Darren Winningham | Friday, October 15, 2021

Eagle Farm this weekend with the track rated “good” and the rail is out 3.5 metres for the entire circuit.

What about the dynamic duo – Desleigh Forster and Jim Byrne dominating last Saturday with a winning treble! Well done to the stable and jockey Jim – a wonderful effort!

Massive weekend of racing – The Everest in Sydney – The Caulfield Cup at Caulfield – plus ten races at Eagle Farm!

Oh yes, what about announcement of the 17th NRL team occurred on Wednesday – ho hum! Will they make any difference to you QLDers? Or you Bronco supporters. I cannot see any QLD team being finalists in the next three years!

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

Small field to start the day over 1500 metres.

I think it will be a Gold Coast based trifecta. The Dark (5) is on the quick back up from last weekend where he worked home nicely over 1400 metres – up in distance slightly, I think he will go well this weekend – and he does love this track.

Ciccina (4), trained by Kris Lees, has posted two consecutive wins. Jim Byrne who seems to be getting some nice rides – must be his manager Cameron Partington doing some hard work behind the scenes, but probably owners also wanting the jockey who is in form getting on their horses. Whatever, the real story, she is looking to get a hat trick of wins – short odds for mine $2.

Okay – a WINNO apology this weekend is due – sorry to Bryan & Daniel Guy. I did say they would get beaten by a nostril last weekend in the two-year-old race – they just seem to have had no luck in recent weeks and, of course, the WINNO course occurred beaten by an eyelash – sorry boys! This weekend they will be beaten by a half neck and a head when their horse Vendidit (2) runs a close third – just my opinion of course! I hope they can change their fortunes and win it actually – Kyle Wilson Taylor (KWT) aboard again – was desperately unlucky last time out at Doomben over a mile. Comes back slightly in distance but normally races handy and that be the difference in winning this race.

Selections:

5 – The Dark
4 – Ciccina
2 – Vendidit
3 – Storm Attack

Race 2

A small field here. The two-year-old runners face the starter – watch any market movers.

Les Ross trains Alert State (2) to be ridden by Taylor Marshall. This runner ran second in a trial to Exo Lady (who won last weekend) in good time. Looked like she had plenty of improvement left in her – I am gambling that she could win this.

Modele (7) is trained by Kelly Schweida – Jimmy Orman to ride. Won a recent trial at Deagon in fine fashion. I think she is going to be difficult to beat and there has been solid support for this runner since the markets have opened – keep safe.

Mishani Mistress (6) is a filly owned by Mr Crooks - trained in Toowoomba by Kevin Kemp – a masterful trainer. She raced well in a recent trial at her home track – could be value and a dark horse here.

Selections:

2 – Alert State
7 – Modele
6 – Mishani Mistress
5 – Hattusa

Race 3

The first leg of the Early Quaddie this weekend – note it is a ten-race program - distance race over 2218 metres.

Irish Sequel (2) defeated Bajan Gold (1) last time out at Doomben – looks like the same result this weekend.

If there is one to upset the apple cart Brilliant Concept (3) from the Robert Heathcote yards, who meets them both better at the weights this weekend, could upset the favoured runners.

Ed O’Rourke trains Group Think (4) who won last time out at the Sunshine Coast – gets his first look at the track and distance – maybe could cause an upset.

Selections:

2 – Irish Sequel
3 – Brilliant Concept
1 – Bajan Gold
4 – Group Think

Race 4

An open race here.

Salateen (9) was a winner on debut for her new stable Gollan Racing at a midweek race at Doomben. She steps up to stiffer competition here this weekend – but she was impressive first up and gets the services of Ryan Maloney again for this start. The short odds are of concern to me – but a repeat performance of what she produced at Doomben will see he slay these.

Plutocrat (6) is trained by Chris Anderson. A gear change with the blinkers off and the winkers going on – could be of significance. This mare has a good record fresh and has won here at the track – silly odds on offer for mine at $10. Jim Byrne has the ride, and a recent barrier trial win would suggest that she will sprint well fresh.

Better Get Set (8) is trained by Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted. She won last time out at Ipswich and she has a good effort under her belt here at Eagle Farm – maybe she could upset the favourites.

Selections:

9 – Salateen
6 – Plutocrat
8 – Better Get Set
3 – Able Mabel

Race 5

Another tough race over 1200 metres.

I just think the Chris Munce Racing runner Kavak (6) may get his own way in front here and hold them off – Ryan Maloney to ride.

Whozyadeeler (11) will be ridden by Robbie Fradd for Gollan Racing. Has been disappointing in his two runs from a spell. Gets every chance to win here with the genuine speed in the race – that should assist.

Dominarcher (8) is trained by Billy Healey and was heavily backed last time out and disappointed. I think third up from a spell and back to 1200 metres he will be better placed this weekend – Jimmy Orman remains aboard.

Confidant (5) resumed for Cody Morgan last time out and was sent out as favourite as well but had no luck in running. They have gone for the claim with Kyle Wilson Taylor here. That could be a winning move late.

This is a race that I am not keen on – a few of these have had some poor form in their previous starts.

Selections:

6 – Kavak
11 – Whozyadeeler
8 – Dominarcher
5 – Confidant
Rough chance – (3) For My Annie

Race 6

A race over the mile – final leg of the early Quaddie.

Animate (3) from Kris Lees Racing had no luck last time out – held up, knocked down and lost a plate in running. Just have some concerns as he seems to go better on soft ground. That aside if he turns up here, he should win this.

Tokoriki Lad (7) – again depends what racehorse turns up on the day. Trained by Gollan Racing and to be ridden by Stephanie Thornton, he could turn up and win this race. He normally gets back in the field and storms home late. So, his chances may hindered if leaders are having the advantage this weekend – keep that in mind.

The Chris Waller Racing runner Matowi (5) drops in weight, has run some placings here at Eagle Farm and I think will be better placed here. I don’t think he got around Toowoomba last start. Larry Cassidy is aboard.

Prioritise (9),is trained by Steve Tregea (who has a huge ownership share in the Caulfield Cup favourite – Incentivise). Tregea gone with KWT to get the best out of this gelding. Last time out over 1200 metres he flashed home late – he prefers a mile – should be in the finish.

Selections:

3 – Animate
7 – Tokoriki Lad
9 – Prioritise
5 – Matowi

Race 7

NB: First leg of the Quaddie due to the ten races today. Open over 1200 metres – another small field to face the starter.

I think the race is between two runners – Royal Hale (3) and Georgie’s Pride (8).

Georgie’s Pride sees the combination of Desleigh Forster and Jim Byrne teaming up again this weekend looking for another winner. This mare is second up and is down on the minimum and has a tremendous record here with five wins from eight starts.

Royal Hale (3) ran a slashing third in the Weetwood – caught wide but kept on coming and finished the race off nicely. The form was franked with the Weetwood winner Apache Chase winning again last weekend. Ryan Maloney goes aboard. He does have an excellent strike rate with the Gollan Racing stables.

You Make Me Smile (1) led the Weetwood field up and weakened. This week he should roll along well and get all the favours – Stephanie Thornton will ride.

David Vandyke trains Constant Flight (5) has had some nice barrier trials and has been specked in the betting – keep your eye on this runner as we get closer to post time – if they keep coming for her – follow the money!
Selections:

8 – Georgie’s Pride
3 – Royal Hale
1 – You Make Me Smile
5 – Constant flight

Race 8

A nice three-year-old race – QTIS bonus as well.

I did tip It’s All Talk the other weekend - $41 into $26 – someone got a nice collect! The filly was first up for the Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted Racing team with Jaden Lloyd on board – why break up a winning team! We won’t be getting that price this weekend – probably more around $7. She will enjoy the step up in distance – just concerned about being second-up here. There will be good speed in the race again with Rhapsody Rose (1) engaged. That may just see her get home late here again.

Tony Gollan trains Big Muskie (5) who won his maiden last time out at Doomben. He looked impressive. Granted it is a step up in distance and in class but he maybe a surprise packet at some good odds – Jim Byrne will ride. I think that he may be able to sit in behind the speed early. If that is the case, he will let down late.

Rhapsody Rose (1) is a high-quality filly from Chris Munce Racing – she must carry a huge weight again this weekend. Since her effort at the Gold Coast, she has won a trial. Ryan Maloney takes over in the saddle.

Keep the Stuart Kendrick trained Menazzi (7) safe. She is fourth up here – I think looking for this distance and Taylor Marshall takes the ride. She did race a little wide last time out - will settle back in the field as well. Could upset a few of these.

Selections:

4 – It’s All Talk
7 – Menazzi
1 – Rhapsody Rose
5 – Big Muskie

Race 9

Class 6 over 1400 metres.

Firstly, another new training partnership debuts here at Eagle Farm this weekend – the experience of Rex Lipp and the youth of Nick Hahn. Based in Toowoomba they have their first runner here in Red Stina (2) – tough assignment for this mare here, but best of luck boys!

Mick Lakey trains Enterprise Prince (7) who gets in nicely with the claim for apprentice Jaden Lloyd. This gelding nearly won last time out at Doomben – a repeat of that effort should see him right in the finish here.

Barneys Law (5) is trained by Mark Currie and Taylor Marshall will be aboard again. This gelding has a great record at the track and distance. I think that now he is back to his best distance and track we will see a dramatic reversal in form. The other thing is that he is down in the weights, and he seems to go better when he doesn’t carry too much weight.

Cristal Breeze (3) is third up here – looks ideally placed – should push forward despite drawing barrier 10. This weekend in the small field – IF they are making ground, he gets his chance third up to post a win – Andrew Mallyon will ride for the Kris Lees Racing team.

Selections:

7 – Enterprise Prince
5 – Barneys Law
1 – Cristal Breeze
6 – Ziemba

Race 10

The last race of the day over 1200 metres.

The Rex Lipp & Nick Hahn partnership have a couple more engaged here – Simply Fly (2) and Tycoon Evie (7). Both have won trials on their home track in Toowoomba. I note that Mark Du Plessis went up the hill to ride Tycoon Evie (7) in her trial and she ran a nice time and looked good in that effort. I think that on that showing she looks well primed to show up this weekend first up – and maybe claim a win for the new training partnership.

Simply Fly (2) has the winkers going on for this first up assignment – the speed on will suit him. If they are making ground late in the day – be sure to have something on this runner – he is a quality horse. If it was a longer distance, I would be putting him in my top two selections.

Gollan Racing has a good chance in the race as well. Le Palmier (5) was unlucky first up beaten in a blanket finish by Tambo’s Mate. He races great second up and has a superb record here at Eagle Farm – and has the services of Jim Byrne

Selections:

7 – Tycoon Evie
5 – Le Palmier
6 – Dr Why Not
2 – Simply Fly
Rough chance – (3) Genzai The Wolf

Jockey’s Challenge

Looks like it is a battle between Jim Byrne and Ryan Maloney – Jim Byrne this weekend – by a nose! If you want to play wide maybe Taylor Marshall could be a sneaky chance at good odds.

WINNO V FLEMO

FLEMO got WINNO last weekend in our tipping competition, tipping a massive six winners. We managed 7 winners between us – some at some good prices. Well, done FLEMO. Let’s hope we can keep up the good form this weekend. Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
