MATT MOORE'S DOOMBEN SELECTIONS

By Matt Moore | Friday, April 9, 2021

Doomben backs up from the Easter Monday meeting with nine races tomorrow. Track is in the Heavy range but with plenty of sun around today and again tomorrow, we should find ourselves in a Soft 7/6. The rail is out 2.5m the entire circuit.

RACE 1 QTIS 2YO HANDICAP (over 1200m):

No 1 Ahooshu
No 3 Military Gambler
No 5 Startantes
No 2 Balmaurice

Ahooshu was impressive running second to Sweet Dolly his last start in the 2YO Jewel. That was on a Heavy 9 at this trip. His run prior was his maiden win on a Heavy 8. He’ll roll forward along with Military Gambler, but that Sweet Dolly form reference jumps out.

RACE 2 OPEN HANDICAP (over 2020):

No 2 Humbolt Current
No 4 Sir Barnabus
No 8 Guise
No 3 Romakash

Humbolt Current comes into this race off a win at this track and distance two weeks ago. His run prior was a 2nd to Romakash at Eagle Farm. Romakash has never had a result at Doomben in 8 runs where Humbolt Current is unbeaten from his 3 runs at the track, all at the 2000m range.

RACE 3 BM90 HANDICAP (over 1600m):

No 1 Cloak
No 4 Seeingisbelieving
No 6 Barefoot
No 8 Captivator

David Vandyke sends his 5YO gelding into this race 2nd up where his record is good (two wins from three when 2nd up). He opened up this campaign at this track where he finished 2,75 lengths behind the Edmonds runner Vanna Girl. Big ticks everywhere. He’s won both his runs at the track/distance and can handle the Soft or Heavy range.

RACE 4 BM78 HANDICAP (over 1200m):

No 13 Amiche
No 4 Fender
No 2 Hold The Line
No 9 Genzai The Wolf

David Vandyke’s Amiche returned after a spell to win a Class 3 at this track over 1050m 6 weeks ago. She hasn’t missed the quinella in her 2 runs 2nd up and she’s building a good record at Doomben. The rain affected track won’t bother her as she’s won all 3 races on soft/heavy ground.

RACE 5 BM72 HANDICAP (over 1615m):

No 7 Express Princess
No 5 Hallowed Girl
No 9 Love Yers All
No 4 Coastal Prince

The Freedman Runner Express Princess comes up from Sydney in a race that looks well suited for her. She’s finished second in her last two races at BM78 and BM72. She’s had one run at this track which was three runs back. She won by 1.25 lengths over the 1350m. Gate 14 the only thing to overcome, but I’ve got her crossing over to sit nicely off the speed.

RACE 6 QTIS 3YO HANDICAP (over 16i5m):

No 2 Abracadazzle
No 4 Better Get Set
No 8 Criminal Defence
No 11 Deal Of Power

The Tony Gollan trained filly Abracadazzle is flying this prep. The only question I have is does she have one more run in here as this will be her sixth run this campaign. She won from the pole in her last start across the road at Eagle Farm and her two runs prior to that were races won by The Cullinan and Tycoon Evie.

RACE 7 3YO QUALITY HANDICAP (over 1050m):

No 1 Simply Fly
No 5 Zingalong
No 6 Ballistic Lover
No 8 Bleu Zebra

Rex Lipp has his runner flying. The son of Spirit Of Boom has won all four of his runs this campaign and has recorded six wins from hiseight career starts. He’s unbeaten three from three at this trip and is unbeaten from all four runs on rain affected tracks. Will carry a big weight of 60.5kg but with Steph Thornton sticking, he looks set to keep is 100% winning record this campaign intact.

RACE 8 OPEN HANDICAP (over 1200m):

No 2 Racecourse Road
No 1 Jadentom
No 6 Royal Witness
No 8 Epic Girl

Kelly Schweida’s runner in Racecourse Road has been fantastic in his last five runs, winning three. The last of those was upon resumption at the Gold Coast on Jewel Day, putting that field away by 2.50 lengths on a Heavy 9 over the 1000m. Ronnie Stewart has seemed to have connected well with him and look for these two to get out again and set the speed in the race.

RACE 9 CLASS 6 PLATE (over 1350m):

No Gem Of Scotland
No 6 Kedah
No 2 Royal Hale
No 12 Wonderful Riri

Gem Of Scotland has returned well after that lengthy layoff after sustaining that injury at Jewel Day in 2020. An impressive return at the Sunny Coast after 11 months off saw her finish third, only going down by just over a length. She then returned to the Gold Coast in her last race where she raced wide. She’ll come into this race stripped fit and returns to Doomben which she loves. Two wins and two seconds from 4 starts at this track.

QUADDIE NUMBERS

Race 7: 1 5 6 8
Race 8: 1 2 6 8
Race 9: 2 5 6 9 12
