'CATCH ME IF YOU CAN' TACTICS PAYS DIVIDENDS FOR RYAN WIGGINS AND ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW

By Graham Potter | Saturday, March 27, 2021

It was a case of putting the head down and saying ‘catch me if you can’.

That was the game-plan of Ryan Wiggins aboard Rollinwiththeflow, both early on and then with far more intensity in the home straight in the fourth race at Doomben, a Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1350m, and Wiggins’ daring tactics paid off handsomely as Rollinwiththeflow still held a useful advantage of a length on of the hard chasing Better Get Set at the line.

The Tom Button trained son of Love Conquers All had put the writing on the wall in his previous start where he showed to very good advantage when finishing third in The QTIS Jewel contest for three-year-olds (behind the very smart Simply Fly).

He stepped up from that 1200m to 1350m here with some aplomb to claim a fifth career victory from only eleven starts.

It was the second Saturday meeting in a row where Wiggins has shown a superb judgement of pace in a winning ride.

“Couple of good rides always helps and we got a good ride today from Ryan,” said trainer Tom Button.

“He was pretty well underdone when we headed up to Rocky (two runs back), but I wanted him to get a few yards under his legs before he went to The Jewel.

“His run in The Jewel was a massive run. If you watch it, he was probably six or seven wide the entire time, working hard and he still fought it out. He probably looked a winning chance at the 300m … and today, 1350m … first go at it … he got it pretty cheap in front, skipped away on the corner and held on.

“These QTIS races, at the moment, are where we will aim at. It’s good money so we are happy to front with them at the moment.

“If he can make it into the carnival, we’ll have another look then.”
