WISHART LANDS ONE FOR HER BOSS

Apprentice Madeleine Wishart, fresh from her first Listed race victory on Flash Aah at the Gold Coast last week, turned in another eye-catching ride when urging the Kevin Kemp trained Dreamtimer to victory in a Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1300m at Eagle Farm.

The race came down to a two-way contest between Dreamtimer and the Donald Baker trained Hidden Eyes with the former doing enough in a spirited stride for stride battle to clinch the win by a 0.20 length margin.

“I said to Maddy (Wishart) … don’t go back, don’t go back. If you do, you won’t be there in the finish, said trainer Kevin Kemp. “Just be there.

“It’s so lovely. Maddy (who is apprenticed to Kemp) is going so well. She won a Listed race at the Gold Coast last week and that was lovely ride there.

“The horse has come back well”, continued Kemp. “He had a long break … a virus thing … and what would have normally taken three or four months too much longer.” (Dreamtimer was actually away from race action from December 2019 to January 2021).

“He likes the sting out of the ground. He won over the road (at Doomben) on a heavy one day and he got the job done today.”

“Kevin Kemp said just ride him forward,” said Madeleine Wishart, “and I said what about midfield … and he said, no forward … and I said, ok I’ll go forward.

“We did a little bit of work to get there and he was just travelling all on his own. I thought Adin (Thompson who was on Hidden Eyes) might have got me late but, when Adin got closer, he just kicked again.

‘I was actually meant to ride this horse that day I came off in that bucking incident.

“I was still trying to get on him but they wouldn’t let me, but we’ll forget about that an move forward.”
