BAR TO BE RAISED HIGHER FOR PARURE AFTER HER WIN IN THE GROUP 2 AUTUMN STAKES

By Graham Potter | Saturday, February 20, 2021

The Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes trained filly Parure proved too strong for the rivals in the Group 2 Autumn Classic at Caulfield.

It was something of a cavalry charge coming past the 250m mark, but Damian Lane had got the Fastnet Rock filly to the front a long way out and she continued to find something extra over the closing stages to hold her advantage to the line.

The filly’s two previous career wins had come over 1300m and 1600m and this win (over 1800m) marked a continuation of the policy of stepping her up in distance … and once again she passed the test with flying colours.

“She is very well bred (Fastnet Rock – Fontein Ruby) so she has become very valuable in a couple of minutes,” said co-trainer Ben Hayes.

‘it is really exciting and the win gives us a lot of scope moving forward with her.

“it was a ten out of ten ride by Damian Lane. He put her in a great spot, presented at the top of the straight and she was really strong through the line.

“Now that she has shown she can run a strong 1800m we have got lots of options with her now.

“I don’t think 2000m will be an issue and races like The Vinery and even The Oaks could be an option.

“She is bred to get out to 2000m and probably beyond as well.

“An excellent result.”
