WINNO'S WINNERS: SUNSHINE COAST, NOVEMBER 21

By Darren Winningham | Friday, November 20, 2020

This weekend we up the highway (well crash and traffic pending) to the Sunshine Coast where the track rated is “GOOD” and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit. Local horses seem to always thrive on these days – PLUS watch out for the local plunges that do occur from time to time on locally trained horses.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day

Race 1

The two-year-old runners start off the day. There are many unraced runners here – watch the markets is my tip.

Le Force (7) made his debut at Doomben four weeks ago – the run was even – got too far back and had little luck. The winkers go on this weekend for this Darryl Hansen runner. Look for an improvement back on his home track after being scratched last weekend. Luke Tarrant to ride – lucky for me I am staying home as I expect that Mr Tarrant will have some colourful words for me if I was on track after QLD won Origin.

Subterranean (4) won a trial impressively recently. Trained in NSW by Matthew Dunn and Mark Du Plessis to ride. There are high expectations of this colt on debut.

Pretty Flash (13) was even in a recent trial for the Hoysted and O’Dea training partnership. I would have thought she would be better placed with a better barrier draw, however, I can see her jumping and staying away from the early speed and then finishing off late.

Winter Violet (15) has a tongue tie on this weekend for Kacy Fogden. She raced well on debut six weeks ago – look for improvement.

Son of Pharoah (3) is trained by Kelly Schweida Racing – the winkers go on here for the debut run. Jimmy Orman is on top – look for any market support for this runner.

Selections:

6 – Le Force
4 – Subterranean
13 – Pretty Flash
15 – Winter Violet
Rough chances – (1) Collay’s Spirit & (3) Son Of Pharoah

Race 2

An open race over the mile.

Nic Nat Nui (11) had no luck in the running last start at Doomben – forget that run. He won here first up from a spell and is trained by Tony Gollan who is flying again early in the season. The winkers come off this weekend. Jim Byrne is in the saddle.

Champagne Toots – will the corks be popping after the race for the owners and the Edmonds Racing team? This mare is fourth up now. She was caught wide last start at Ipswich – drawn on the rails this weekend, she should get all the favours in the running with Robbie Fradd to ride.

Main De Foi (12) is trained here by Natalie McCall. Has had all her career wins here at the track – the mile and down in the weights. Tiffani Brooker rides her for the local stable – welcome back Tiffani!

It is a tough race.

The money has come for the locally trained Cabochon Lil (5) trained by Stuart Kendrick.

Selections:

11 – Nic Nat Nui
10 – Champagne Toots
12 – Main De Foi
5 – Cabochon Lil

Race 3

QTIS three-year-old race here – an open field as well.

Gollan Racing is well represented with Corvo (2) and Palladas (5).

I am liking the chances of Corvo (2) again this weekend. Look, he can be tardy out of the gates and this seems to have featured in his past two starts. I am hoping with Baylee Nothdurft aboard this weekend he can rev him up in the gates and get him away cleanly.

The stablemate is Palladas (5) who was in the same race as Corvo (2) last start and finished off strongly. He probably has the wood on the stable mate as he will jump well and race keen – Ryan Maloney will ride here.

Sista Elenore (8) is on the quick back up from last weekend. Back on her home track where both of her two career wins have taken place. I am excited about her prospects this weekend for Darryl Hansen. Luke Tarrant takes the ride.

Keep your eye on the locally trained Dzsenifer (4) who has been the medium of solid support from $16 to $9.

Selections:

2 – Corvo
5 – Palladas
8 – Sista Elenore
4 - Dzsenifer
Rough chance – (15) Spill Queen

Race 4

Tough race this one. No metro win race. You could have six picks here and miss the winner.

Matt Hoysted and Steven O’Dea have Totally Charmed (7) racing here again after he resumed here a fortnight ago and won. He will trail the leaders and Stephanie Thornton will ride for luck in the big field to storm home late.

Valario (3) is another local runner who comes back from a solid effort over the Rockhampton Carnival. There is no knock here on the chances of this runner.

One Stryke (6) races well here. Second up this weekend for trainer Lauren Abbott. Another one at odds that may cause and upset.

Molly’s Rocking (11) is well placed by trainer Lindsay Hatch. Adin Thompson rode her to victory last start at Doomben. She was dominant in that win and a repeat of that effort will see her win this race. She has been smashed in the early betting firming from $14 to $6.

Keep your eyes on the Gollan Racing pair – All Important (5), who looks the likely leader here, and Vinco (16), who resumes, has been trialling very well and gets in well at the weights.

Selections:

7 – Totally Charmed
11 – Molly’s Rocking
3 – Valario
6 – One Stryke
Rough chances – (5) All Important & (16) Vinco

Race 5

These races just keep getting harder!

Scathing (3) from Munce Racing gets in well here at the conditions. He has won here at the track and distance. Stable apprentice Justin Huxtable is in the saddle.

Gee Tee Tee (1) resumed from a 25-week spell and ran a cheeky race in front before being swamped late – however, still fought on well to finish a gallant second.

Love Express (7) is trained here on the track and is resuming from a 16-week spell. This runner always go wells fresh and could cause an upset at nice odds. Sean Cormack rides for local trainer Gary Duncan.

Stylish Saga (4) has been in the money in all three runs from a spell. Trained by Chris Anderson he will be partnered by Brad Stewart this weekend.

Selections:

3 – Scathing
1 – Gee Tee Tee
7 – Love Express
4 – Stylish Saga
Rough chances – (12) Veranes & (15) Tracy May

Race 6

First leg of the Quaddie.

Gotta Kiss (1) resumes here. She has her share of weight and she comes off a solid effort in Group 1 company over the Brisbane Winter Carnival. Stephanie Thornton keeps her association with this filly – look for a solid run first up.

Hancora Field (2) is trained by Les Ross Racing. This runner trialled well in preparation for this first up effort. Stable apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson takes a 3-kilogram claim off her back which makes me attracted to her.

Goldsborough (4) won by racing on the lead when resuming at Doomben two weeks ago. Back on his home track he will give you a great sight.

Keep your eye on any support for Bleu Zebra (8) who won a trial last week in super style. Lightly raced and from the Gollan Racing team with Ben Thompson aboard, she ticks a few boxes here. The money continues to pour in since markets have opened as well firming from $5.50 to $3.60.

Fleet Dove (6) has been gelded and resumes - has been working well.

Selections:

1 – Gotta Kiss
2 – Hancora Field
8 – Bleu Zebra
4 – Goldsborough
Rough chance – (3) Superare & (6) Fleet Dove

Race 7

This is an open race – first leg of the treble as well.

These races normally favour leaders on this track.

Gollan Racing is well represented here – he could fill the trifecta and the first four like he did a fortnight ago at Doomben.

I like his speedy little mare Sugar Boom (7). She has had a short let up and a recent trial was sensational – Baylee Nothdurft is aboard after riding her in the trial. I think from barrier 2 she will ping the lead and be very difficult to run down.

Just Orm (8) - he will love the speed on – watch him come down the crown of the track and be storming home late – but will he run down the stable mate? The other Gollan runner is Capital Connection (9) who loves to flash late as well. Brad Stewart is on this one.

Tambo’s Mate (1) is a war horse – trained locally by Stuart Kendrick and Matthew McGillivray rides him here. He will settle off the speed and will be flashing home late.

Baccarat Baby (3) from the David Vandyke stables races on her home track and should be considered as well. The race is too short for her, but she can race well fresh and with some genuine speed here Michael Hellyer may be able to cause an upset.

Selections:

7 – Sugar Baby
1 – Tambo’s Mate
8 – Just Orm
9 – Capital Connection
Rough chance – (3) Baccarat Baby

Race 8

The feature race – the Mooloolaba Cup over a mile.

Well you would have to been on the moon not to see the excellent run of Ballistic Boy (8) first up at Doomben when he came from a hopeless position on the turn and flashed home late to run a gallant second. He is my top selection however, he needs a lot to go right in his races to win – so bet with some caution.

The runner that could upset the favourite could be the Matt Hoysted and Steven O’Dea trained Reckless Choice (10) who is second up here. He likes this distance and track but has superb third up form rather than second up – but I think he gets conditions to suit here and Ben Thompson is riding in superb form. He could prove the difference.

So You Win (5) made a cracking debut in Queensland for the Chris Waller stables based on the Gold Coast when he won over 2040 metres at Doomben. He drops back in distance – but I think that the shorter distance is more his go and he has had a three week freshen up in preparation for this race. Larry Cassidy takes over from Luke Dittman.

Grey Missile (11) from Edmonds Racing has an important gear change with the blinkers going on again. If he can get back to his form that he showed in North Queensland he will give this race a shake.

Testashadow (17) keeps on showing up every time he sets foot on a track – a nine-year-old who just keeps trying. He loves a mile and is down in the weights – could be a rough chance to cause an upset.

Niccanova (1) is on the quick back up from last weekend in the Keith Noud (Listed). This Steve Tregea runner had no luck when he went to Sydney for his recent campaign. Has been freshened and may show some improvement this weekend.

Selections:

8 – Ballistic Boy
10 – Reckless Choice
5 – So You Win
11 – Grey Missile
Rough chance – (1) Niccanova & (17) Testashadow

Race 9

The last race – I will not be betting – I think I will just take some photos – pack the bag and hit the frog and toe and head home!

Love Struck (5) from the Gold Coast stables of Scott Morrisey has had a four-week spell. He races well fresh and I think has been well placed in this grade by the stable. He will enjoy the genuine speed in the race and will sit off them probably 4 or 5 pairs back and finish over the top of them.

The Sinner (8) is trained on the track by Natalie McCall. Comes off a last start win here and has won four starts at his home track. Michael Cahill has the ride this weekend – he has been in very good form off late.

Green Jacket (17) is an emergency that should make the field from Edmonds Racing. He is second up here on a track and distance that he has won over previously – Jim Byrne aboard (he will be happy after the QLD team won Wednesday night). Could take a power of beating at around $25 on offer.

Tokoriki Lad (4) is another Gollan Racing runner – third up this preparation with his runs well spaced. He has won previously third up and there has been some support for this runner since the markets have opened.

Picka Plum (14) is a middle distance and stayer resuming here. He has sprinted well in the past first up – and the speed will be on in this race so you may see him power home late. Keep this runner safe.

Selections:

5 – Love Struck
8 – The Sinner
17 – Green Jacket
4 – Tokoriki Lad
Rough chances – (1) Peppi La Few & (14) Picka Plum

WINNO V FLEMO

FLEMO got WINNO last weekend in our tipping competition. We managed to find 5 winners between us! This weekend he is back on his home track, so he has all the advantage - keep your eye on his tips - PLUS, he has bragging rights after the dirty QLDers beat NSW in Origin on Wednesday night. The less said about the result in my book! On the positive side NSW did get their captain’s challenge correct – so we did win something on the night! Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
