SCST SEPT 18 - ZENACITY POWERS HOME

By Graham Potter | Sunday, September 20, 2009

Sunshine Coast, September 18, 2009.
Cushion Track.
Class 1 Handicap - 1100m. Time: 1-06.22.
1 Zenacity; 2 Poinciana; 3 Slepner

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Peter Bell: “It’s the first start for me. They sent it up from Melbourne. It did a bit of pre-training in Melbourne before it came here. I’ve had it in work probably for eight weeks, I would say, approximately. It’s obviously enjoyed the sunshine up here. Its work has been quite good.

“It’s only one race before from twenty starts, so I don’t know its general racing pattern to be quite honest. We did trial it and it came from off the pace in the trial and ran a nice third, so we were happy to do it that way today.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
The start of this race was delayed when Matai proved difficult to load. Trainer T. Harden was advised that a warning would be place on the horse's barrier manners. Frederik The Dane (K. Sawyers) was tightened for room at the start between Poinciana (M. Wood) and Zenacity (M. Heagney), which shifted in. Paramount (S.Katsidis) began awkwardly and lost ground. Zenacity had a tendency to lay in in the early stages.

Near the 200m, It's Winderbar (M. Hellyer) shifted in under pressure, obligating its rider to stop riding and straighten. Paramount lay in under pressure over the concluding stages. It's Wunderbar and Luvenger (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of Zenacity, trainer P. Bell stated that the horse was having its first start for his stable today since coming from Victoria and had pleased him with its recent work. Mr Bell further added that the mare's recent form in Melbourne had been on rain-affected tracks and the horse seemed to appreciate the cushion track today. The explanation was noted.
