DARWIN BEWARE! WINNO IS ON HIS WAY

By Darren Winningham | Monday, July 30, 2018

Well it has been confirmed punters HRO's WINNO will be attending the Darwin Turf Club “Carnival of Colour” Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival!

Thanks to the Darwin Turf Club for allowing us to cover the Carnival this year.

Last year was my first Carnival – and who can ever forget that magical quote from the CEO of the Darwin Turf Club – Mr Keith Stacy “Where else would you want to spend Winter?”

On that note it looks like a warm 28 plus degrees for the Cup weather this year.

I learnt a fair bit last year in my inaugural Carnival.

We speak about feature races around the world and Australia. As you know I have just had five days at Grafton to cover their Carnival – then there is the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival – the Melbourne Cup Carnival – the Japan Cup in November each year and one that is very special to me the Hong Kong International Races in December.

They all have their own idiosyncrasies – their own “flavour” - and attract crowds that enjoy them.

I feel that Darwin is unique. The patrons who come are passionate about their racing. Not only the patrons but bookmakers from across Australia flock to the Carnival looking to cash in on the month of racing culminating with the two feature races over the Carnival – on Saturday the bet365 Palmerston Sprint and on Monday the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup.

This year those races are scheduled for Saturday, August 4 and the Cup, always the last race on the program on Monday, August 6.

WINNO is heading up early this year and will be there from Wednesday to cover the Darwin Corporate Park Race Day and then the final two days of the program.
Last year I was all over the place – Horse racing – Fashions on the field – Calcutta events – Darwin Ball and I managed a visit to the Casino.

If you have some holidays or want to visit the Northern Territory – now is the time!

It is the “dry season” for the weather in Darwin presently but I can I assure you it is not a “dry season” at the local pubs, clubs and race tracks!
