SCST SEPT 13 - BE GLORIOUS SCORES FLUENT VICTORY

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Sunshine Coast, September 13, 2009.
Track - Good 3. Rail - Out 2m.
Class 1 Handicap - 1600m.Time: 1-37.46.
1 Be Glorious; 2 Our Wave; 3 World By Night.

The Lindsay Gough trained Be Glorious scored a fluent victory when she proved to be far too good for her rivals who she outgunned every bit as easily as the official 3.30 length winning margin suggests.

Jockey Damian Browne put the mare straight into the box seat from where he kept a watching brief as he allowed City Limits and Our Wave to cut out the speed at the head of affairs. Browne switched Be Glorious out three wide approaching the turn and he wasted little time in setting sail for home on straightening.

Be Glorious responded on cue and breezed away from the opposition with a minimum of fuss to score in a most comfortable fashion.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Lindsay Gough: “She’s just a bit of a timid little thing. She lost a bit of concentration last time she came to the turn. Mitchell Speers rode her and he said he thought she was going to finish off a lot better, you know, and we thought she might have been a bit timid between other horses.

“I guess you are just looking for somewhere to go and I thought we would just step her up in distance and try winkers as opposed to blinkers ... she had blinkers on before when she raced Melbourne, where she raced ok. I guess we were just trying something different.

“Damian (Browne) rode her beautifully and she had a lovely run. The encouraging this is she hit the line. I know it was only an average race but all you can do is win your race. Hopefully it’s onwards and upwards and if she can run 2000m that would be good.”

Jockey Damian Browne: “The race was run at a lovely even tempo. She is probably a little bit one-paced my horse and the tempo suited her. She had all the favours and from the corner she was always going to be hard to beat. She really accelerated off the corner and put the issue beyond doubt.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Bos Bovis was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.06 pm. Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos will be advised that she must provide a veterinary clearance for Bos Bovis prior to its next race start.
Hamatym (J. Kropp) and Moringa’s King (I. Coombes) were both slow to begin. Shanamin (L. Cheshire) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the performance of Blue Ego, M. Wood stated that the horse was inclined to hang in throughout the event and shifted in, making heavy contact with the running rail near the 1400m and 800m, and then again between the 800m and 500m brushed the running rail on several occasions. M. Wood further stated that the horse failed to run on as anticipated when placed under pressure, and, in his opinion, proved disappointing.

Trainer K. Davis stated that the horse would be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of Blue Ego revealed the horse to be showing soreness over the hind quarters. Trainer K. Davis was advised he must obtain a veterinary clearance for Blue Ego prior to its next race start.
