WINNO'S WINNERS: DOOMBEN APRIL 30

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, April 28, 2016

As this form assessment was made prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

NB: Rail is out 4.5m for the entire course. Probably saving the track for the main Carnival racing which is right upon us.

*Last weekend the Gollan stable suffered a horrifying accident on the way to the track. It is great to read in the media that all horses have been doing well and Tony and his staff all came out of the accident relatively unscathed.

**********************************************************************************************************

Race 1

Caillebotte (7) is coming off a nice win at Doomben 3 weeks ago. Maurus (3) has had some recent trials to get ready for the run. Locks Legend (1) and Perplexity (4) are getting back to their best performed distances.

Selections: 7-3-1-4

***********************************************************************************************************

Race 2

Straturbo (5) won a recent barrier trial and is freshened for this assignment. Glenbawn Dame (6) won well and has a month between runs. Into the Red (2) always runs well fresh and Angels Beach (1) ran well last start in a Group 3 race and has blinkers on for this run. It is the class runner of the field. Lady Jetsetter (8) was scratched from Sunshine Coast last week. It has plenty of speed but I am thinking it may have to be ridden quietly with the other speedsters in the race.

Selections: 5-6-2-1 - rough chance 8

*********************************************************************************************************

Race 3

Dee Nine Elle (7) has been run down in the final stages in its last two starts. Fiery Heights (2) has been racing consistently and has a fair lump of weight and a bad barrier to overcome. Arthur Le Roi (8) is a promising gelding and is sure to run well. Stella Ombra (3) missed the start at a recent midweek assignment. I nearly tore my ticket up, but it made a long sustained run and buried the weaker opposition. If it can get away cleanly it could be the horse to finish late and win the race.

Selections: 7-1-8-3 - rough chance the 5

********************************************************************************************************

Race 4

The speedy Nicconi Leggera (9) has had a jockey change with Jay Ford coming up from Sydney to ride the filly. Jay is a good jockey – even better as he owns a cute beagle named “Oscar”. Real Classic (5) missed the start last time and battled on well ... and is sure to have derived some benefit from the run. Clandika (7) returns after a gallant third to Capitalist in the 2016 Magic Millions race. Tiyatrolani (13) debuted well at Ipswich and may be ridden for speed from the good gate.

Selections: 5-9-7-8 - rough chance 13

********************************************************************************************************

Race 5

Reckless Abandon (5) is on track to win four in a row. Comacina (9) was a massive run first up in midweek company where there was no speed on. Could be some value in this race. Ruling Force (3), Heart of a Warrior (4) and Col N Lil (7) have all performed well recently and should contest the placings.
`
Selections: 5-9-3-4 - rough chance 7

********************************************************************************************************

Race 6 - Victory Stakes (Group 2 Race)

Fell Swoop (1) and Knoydart (7) both performed well recently in Sydney. They both look the hardest to beat with the WFA conditions of this race. Knoydart (7) does have an impressive second up record and did perform well over the 2015 Brisbane Winter Carnival. At the value I am tipping him to win. Artlee (3) was unlucky last start in Sydney and was held up at a vital point of the race. It is sure to be further improved and could be the knock out horse for the two favourites.

Selections: 7-1-3-4

**********************************************************************************************************

Race 7 - Gunsynd Classic (Group 3 Race)

Good quality field assembled for this race. The Desleigh Foster stable is well represented with Too Good To Refuse (1) and I’m Belucci (2) – with blinkers back on both in the race. Last start Ryan Wiggins was able to time his run well at Toowoomba on Too Good To Refuse (1) to win the Toowoomba Guineas. Wiggo has been in great form in recent weeks, unlike his beloved Sydney City Roosters and he should be hard to beat again in this race. The three Sydney horses Miami Dade (7), Dawnie Perfect (13) and Tap This (14) all should improve if the track is not rain effected.

Selections: 14-1-13-7 rough chances 2 & 3

********************************************************************************************************

Race 8

Trubia (7) was impressive first up at Toowoomba but has a poor second up record, so I am steering away from it. I tipped Lordag (5) to be running home in the same race and it did just that! I think back at Doomben and a tidy second up record it could be the one to beat. Mahican (14) has an impressive third up record and has the benefit of a recent barrier trial. Glendara (10) was solid before his last start and is best ridden close to the lead. It has fared poorly with barrier draw but probably will look the winner at some stage in the final 50m. I like the runs of Cantbuybetter (8) and Feltre (2) first up from a spell. These two could be the knock out chances at some big odds!

Selections 5-14-7-10 with rough chance 2 & 8

*********************************************************************************************************

Quaddie (races 5,6,7,8) 3, 5, 9 / 1, 3, 7 / 1, 13, 14 / 5, 7, 8, 10,14 - cost $135 for $1

Treble (races 6,7,8) 1, 3, 7 / 1, 13, 14 / 5, 7, 8, 10, 14 – cost $45 for $1

Small Quaddie (races 5,6,7,8) 5, 9 / 1, 7 / 1, 14 / 5, 7, 10,14 - cost $32 for $1

Jockeys Challenge – Jay Ford at some massive odds I am hoping!
