WINNO’S WINNERS (2) - DOOMBEN, APRIL 2

By Darren Winningham | Friday, April 1, 2016

Darren Winningham is a well-known figure around racetracks in South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Darren’s passion for the racing game in general and his love of the punt in particular, coupled with the broad experience and knowledge he has gained over the last twenty-five years in the game, makes him a very welcome addition to HRO’s expanding team of tipsters. ‘Winno’s Winners’ will appear every Friday on HRO.

Punters should be warned the rail is 5m out this week the entire track at Doomben. This could result in leaders having a distinct advantage in the races scheduled.

As this form assessment was made one day prior to raceday, please check final fields and track conditions for any changes on the day.

Race 1

Holder Sunset (7) has had a change of stables and trialled well recently and should lead from Spirit of Dawn (2) and Lady Jetsetter (4). I have them finishing in that order. Watch out for Global Red (11) coming off a 28 day break who could run well fresh.

Selections: 7-2-4-11

Race 2

Good quality race. Some good 2 year olds going around. Love Spy (3) looked promising winning its only two starts. I think that Endless Days (2) from the Hulbert stable looks above average. A big shout out to the Grafton trained horse Charlee Bear (7), undefeated in its four starts, to be ridden by Kirk Matheson. It is great to see Kirk back riding at Doomben!

Selections: 2-3-1-7

Race 3

Tough race this some serial offenders running around. I would say to keep the wallet closed.

Selections: 6-7-9-8

Race 4

Wicked Intent (6) returned from a spell winning first up for the Munce stable. Casual Choice (1) for the Gollan stable has come back from with a spell with two impressive wins. I think the race is between these two runners.

Selections: 6-1-7-5

******************************************************************************************************

Race 5

El Sasso (2) from the Peter Snowden stable to be ridden by Damian Browne, after his tantalising ride on Buffering last weekend at the Dubai World Cup, should be hard to beat. Urban Knight (3) was the subject of a massive betting plunge from $21 to $7 on the Gold Coast last start and led all the way - one to watch again.

Selections: 2-3-9-14

Race 6

These 3 year old races are always tough and this race is no different. Could do some damage for people taking Quadrellas and Trebles. Not often Glen Colless rides at 54kilos – maybe a lead here for his mount Flying Labelle (15).

Selections: 6-7-15 rough chances to the 9 & 4

********************************************************************************************************

Race 7

Pretty even race. Oak ‘N’ Arthur (7) has been racing in great form recently with Beau Dene Appo staying aboard after winning last start. Expect improvement from Lock’s Legend (1) and Lauterbrunnen (9).

Selections: 9-1-7-6

******************************************************************************************************

Race 8

The get-out stakes. Very hard race to finish the program but there is some good value in the race. A couple of the well fancied chances have drawn wide ... Kraftwerk (1) and Col N Lil (9) fairing badly in the barrier draw. I think the Sydney visitor Zedfast (15), trained by Jason Coyle, may be able to improve after winning its last start at Kembla Grange. Keep a watch on Allknight Saint (3) who has finally drawn a barrier this preparation and Lucky Black (4) from the Munce stable coming back in distance. Go wide in your multis.

Selections 15-3-4 with rough chances to the 1, 2 and 9 if they get luck in running.

*********************************************************************************************************

Quaddie (races 5,6,7,8): 2,3/6,7,15/1,7,9/2,3,4,9,15 - cost $90 for $1

Treble (races 6,7,8): 6,7,15/1,7,9/2,3,4.9,15 - cost will be $45 for $1

Small Quaddie (races 5,6,7,8): 2,3/6,15/1,7/3,4,15 - cost $24 for $1
