EF OCT 20 - SAINT ENCOSTA GETS HIS REWARD

By Graham Potter | Saturday, October 20, 2012

Eagle Farm, October 20, 2012.
Track - Good 3; Rail - out 4m entire course.
Benchmark 95 Handicap - 2200m.
1 Saint Encosta; 2 Buffett; 3 Rothera; 4 Attica.
Time: 2-16.93. Last 600: 35.53.
Margins: 1.00; 1.50.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Brett Killion (Foreman for the John Thompson stable): “It was a nice win. That’s what he capable of every time he goes around, but he doesn’t always produce it.

“It did look to be his race today. The lack of pace was a bit of a concern because, as you know, he just walks out of the barriers and comes from last, but I really like the way he got to them today and then went on with it.

“He usually gets to them and has a good think about it, but he really got on with things today.”

Jockey Damian Browne: “I could feel him getting to the leaders pretty easily and he was always going to pick them up.

“He is a horse who has promised plenty and hasn’t delivered on occasions. I really wanted to save him as long as I could. When we got down to about the 100 I gave him one across the bum and he gave me a length and that was all he needed.

“As I said, the horse gave me a good ride all the way and I was always confident.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Saint Encosta): 2.40 steady.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
They Won't Last (M. Cahill) raced ungenerously and refused to settle in the early and middle stages of the event.

Attica (App T. Harrison) lost its near hind plate during the event.
