MY CALL - FORSTER DESERVES HER SUCCESS. YOU GO GIRL

By David Fowler | Tuesday, December 13, 2011

David Fowler is the principal thoroughbred caller for Radio TAB. David, who is a keen form student and punter, has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the racing media. His personal blog, ‘My Call’, appears exclusively on HRO.

Desleigh Forster deserved her moment in the sun at Doomben on Saturday.

Not that there was much sun as storm clouds loomed, but her first Group winner as a trainer was richly warranted for more than one reason.

It also gives us an insight into the fact that races and horses are not just names on form-guides.

Adebisi is a "new man" after a gelding operation and he beat Queensland's best sprinters in the Group Three George Moore with a nifty front-running display.

Finally Desleigh could look fairly and squarely at Adebisi's detractors and say "I told you so".

Sure, she knew his manners beat him on occasions, but she was steadfast in her opinion that he was a good animal. Never wavered from it.

That bond between man, or in this case woman, and animal has never been more evident than the one that exists between Desleigh and Adebisi.

She has proven one point, but is equally determined to also prove he is effective over further than 1200m.

You go girl!

Was there too much hype on Rocker?

The Queenslander arrived in Sydney town with a formidable reputation on the back of two fast wins this prep and was sent out an even-money favorite.

After sitting off a moderate pace and being involved in a bumping duel in the straight, he was beaten in a photo finish.

Far from disappointing, but maybe not as good as we thought. The jury's out.

We are all guilty of "spruiking" horses on various occasions and I think horses owned by well known people, as Rocker is, end up getting a bit more limelight than they probably need.

It's up to Rocker now to show us if he can take the next step.

Punters were certainly in a spin as far as Doomben racing was concerned on Saturday.

After soaking rain on Wednesday we envisaged a heavy track as trading began on Thursday only to think we would finish up with a reasonable "dead" surface after fine weather Thursday and Friday.

We woke to a morning of rain on race-day so it was back to finding the mud-larkers only to find the track dried out brilliantly during the day and it ended up between a dead and slow circuit.

If you found a winner after all those twists and turns, good luck.

I have copped it left, right and centre for the Alltherightmoves call on the weekend.

The Sunday Mail's Nathan Exelby described it as the "Bill Collins moment", referring to the time Bill said Kingston Town "can't win" before he went on to capture the Cox Plate.

I doubt mine will be as legendary but I did say in the next breath "or can she" when I sensed I might be horribly wrong.

Many claim they didn't pick that part of the call up. Selective hearing, maybe.

The bottom line is it seems obvious this talented mare in now looking for 1200m to 1400m.

Until next week.
