FLEMINGTON ON WEATHER-WATCH

By Graham Potter | Friday, October 2, 2026

Racing stakeholders in Victoria will be on weather watch over the next twenty-four hours with a rain soaked Flemington due to host an important meeting tomorrow featuring the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes.

An update by track manager Liam O’Keeffe, speaking on Racing.com, gave as detailed an assessment as he could on the situation this morning.

“We’ve had 51mm in the last twenty-four hours … that’s 57mm for the last seven days, so, quite a decent amount of rain,” said O’Keeffe. “It’s a full saturated profile now. It certainly would be safe if we did race today. We’re on a Heavy 9 now.

“There is about 5mm to 10mm forecast for the remainder of Friday,” continued O’Keeffe “… and then, tomorrow morning the bureau has said 10mm to 20mm in the morning. After that, there is a lot of uncertainly as to whether that eases or whether that can linger around with some rain showers throughout the day.”

“We’ll just have to see how it presents in the morning after that rainfall … and then will have to see what happens after that.’

“Up until now the track has taken the rain the best it could. At the moment the track no worse than Heavy 9 and is safe.

“Fingers crossed we can get away with the lighter side of that forecast today … and that the heavy rain in the morning can clear away.”
