I LOVE YA MONEY COMES GOOD AT BELMONT

Trainer Mitchell Pateman duly landed the Westspeed Platinum Series Final at Belmont, but not, as expected, with the $1.75 favourite Bosun … but instead with the $8 third favourite I Love Ya Money.

The last time these stable companions met, Bosun carried 1.5kg more than I Love Ya Money and beat the chestnut home by four lengths over 1400m. Bosun achieved the result with a powerful, come from behind finish after I Love Ya Money had led the field up before being found wanting inside the final 200m.

What a difference two weeks and a 200m longer trip made.

Bosun followed a similar racing pattern, racing well back in the field, but this time the spark failed to ignite when Patrick Carbery asked him to go forward, whereas I Love Ya Money tracked the speed this time, entering the straight in fourth place, just two lengths off the leader, at which stage I Love Ya Money started to slowly edge up to the leading line, before Willie Pike put the Pateman trained runner into another gear coming through the 200m and he raced away to secure the win by 1.56 length margin.

I’m Nipote ($12) and Kelvenator ($61) finished second and third respectively.

As was the case with Bosun, the $5 second favourite Swift Talker, who had finished second to Bosun in his previous start, failed to run to market expectations, beating only one runner home.
