ILLEGAL JUSTICE LANDS YET ANOTHER GUINEAS

By Graham Potter | Saturday, August 8, 2026

There is just no stopping Illegal Justice who claimed his third successive victory in the $75 000 Townsville Guineas having already wrapped up wins in the Rockhampton Guineas and the MacKay Guineas since the Toowoomba based trainer John Dann headed north with the lightly raced four-year-old early in June.

This was the son of Under The Louvre’s fourth win from only six starts. Dylan Turner has been in the saddle in every one of Illegal Justice’s wins which have been achieved over distances ranging from 1350m to 1609m … on both good and soft going.

The difficulty of trying to lower Illegal Justice’s colours was reflected in the betting with the Dann runner being marked up at the prohibitive odds of $1.24 while only two other runners Bonewood ($8.50) and Sweet Persuader ($12) coming in at odds under $31.

Turner had Illegal Justice at a comfortable gallop in midfield for the first half of the race and it was only on the approach to the home turn that he started to angle his mount away from the rail, slipping across heels as he looked for, and found, clear running by the time the field straightened for home.

That might have been all of four wide, but the only factor that counted at that stage was that Illegal Justice was able to hit his traps, on cue, and be able to launch an uninterrupted run to show his superiority … and that all unfolded as per the predicted pre-race script as Illegal Justice went smoothly through his gears, taking the measure of the game Sweet Whisper, who had tried to kick away mid-straight, inside the final 100m to stretch out to a clearcut 1.93 length victory.

Franking the merit of Illegal Justice’s win is the fact that he carried a massive 8,5kg more than both Sweet Whisper and Bonewood who finished second and third respectively (60,5kg to 52kg).
