THE VERY PROMISING STAR OF JAMAICA RETURNS FOR HIS FIRST RUN AS A THREE-YEAR-OLD

The Chris and Corey Munce trained Star Of Jamaica will be the focus of some attention when he steps out for his first start as a three-year-old in the fourth race at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The chestnut son of Profiteer might only have won once (in a QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast) in five starts to date, but his overall performances … two of which have come in a Group 2 and a Group 3 race … have given notice of his above average ability and have been filled with promise of things to come.

Whether that promise of future success can turn into reality in the short term will, in the first instance, depend on how Star Of Jamaica comes back after close to a five month break from race action … but the Munce Team have given Star Of Jamaica two lead-up trials into this first-up assignment and he showed to good advantage in both of those.

Underlining Star Of Jamaica’s credentials are the following;

Star Of Jamaica finished second on debut to Dream Roca. Dream Roca then won the 2YO Karaka Million at Ellerslie in New Zealand in her next start.

Star of Jamaica then won second-up at the Sunshine Coast.

Star Of Jamaica’s third start was in the $2 million Inglis Millennium in which he finished fourth, only 1.31 lengths behind the winner Fireball. Fireball went on to win the Group 1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick.

Star Of Jamaica then took on Group 2 company in the Skyline Stakes at Randwick where he finished third just 0.19 lengths behind the winner Campiona D'Italia. Campiona D’Italia finished fourth in the Group 1 Gold Slipper in his next start and followed that up with a win in the Group 1 Sires Produce and a second place in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes.

For his fifth and last start as a two-year-old Star Of Jamaica tackled the Group 3 Pago Pago where he finished fifth, again a close-up 1.37 lengths behind the winner Warwoven, Warwoven was the long-time favourite for the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic before being scratched on the eve of the race.

So, Star Of Jamaica’s one win from five starts doesn’t even begin to tell the story of his prowess.

How good a horse might he furnish into as a three-year old?
