WILLIAM GALLOWAY KICKS OFF HIS CAREER IN STYLE

The four kilogram claiming apprentice William Galloway scored his first race victory in only his second career ride when he partnered the Tony Gollan trained Tassorati to a very comfortable win at Gatton.

Tassorati had been racing in town for most of her eight race starts prior to this assignment, so she was always going to be a factor once Gollan elected to send her to a Country meeting, but Galloway, who was charged with the responsibility of guiding Tassorati to her first win, still had to play his part … and he brought it off well as any seasoned rider would have done, importantly getting his mount across the field from a number ten draw to settle in second place, one off, in the first 400m of the race.

Galloway then had Tassorati (the $2.60 favourite) keep the leader company down the back stretch before edging the Gollan trained runner into a narrow lead at the start of the approach to the home turn. On straightening, Brass Band ($4.60) tried to stay with Tassorati but, with Galloway encouraging his mount with vigour, that soon became an unequal battle leaving the race within Tassorati’s keeping well before she crossed the line.

The winning margin was 2.44 lengths.

It was a very confident ride by Galloway which helped give him a confidence building result.

Galloway is blessed with a personal background (he is the son of Group 1 winning jockey, the now retired Scott Galloway) and a stable indenture opportunity (with the stable of multiple Brisbane Trainers’ Premiership winning trainer, Tony Gollan) which will give him every chance of kicking on strongly over the years from here … although, he will have no respite from putting in hard yards and plenty of hours … as he has done to get where he is now … if he is ultimately to get where he wants to be in the future.

An emotional Scott Galloway, who was on track to witness a family’s memorable moment, described the win as something “that has been years in the making.”

But this is just the beginning of a new chapter for William Galloway.

Whatever happens next, this was a great start.
