EF MAR 5 - TWO-IN-A-ROW FOR CARRY TO FORTUNE

By Graham Potter | Monday, March 7, 2011

Eagle Farm, March 5, 2011.
Track - Heavy 10. Rail - out 4.5m.
NMW Handicap (Special conditions) - 1000m.
1 Carry To Fortune; 2 Mondean; 3 Tornadoes.
Time: 59.37. (Carrying 52kg). Last 600m: 35.50.
Margins: 1.25. Half-neck.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Peter O’Sullivan (spokesman for the Sandra O’Sullivan stable): “She’s never been on a heavy, but she did win a jump-out on the coast on a slow track. That would give you a bit of a guide.

“We might just give her a little bit of a blow now and start her up in something better. Possibly something during the Carnival. We’ll just see how she pulls up and spells.

“She’s done nothing but improve every run, so you can’t ask for much better.

“We’ll have a look but I don't think there is another race around for her for a few weeks. She’ll run 1200 too. She is not just a 1000m horse.”

Jockey Mitchell Wood: “That was a good effort by the horse, you know.

“She’s pretty genuine … great turn of foot.

“She was hard on that bridle and I just brought her to the centre of the track.

“She is a push-button horse. When you say go she just gives you what she’s got.

“Look, she handled the going without being effective in it. She is a much better horse than that. Her class just got her through.

“She was clearly the best horse in the race, but the last 200 she was just floundering in that track … yet she just kept running. She is a good horse.”

PRICE FLUCTUATIONS:
Winner (Carry To Fortune): 4.00 in to 3.10 out to 3.30.
The winner was the favourite.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
County Sherrif (J. Holder) was hampered at the start when tightened for room between Before The Storm (Michael Palmer) and Mondean (C. Munce), which shifted in slightly.

Falvelizabeth (J. Wood) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Karanja (Matthew Palmer) also jumped awkwardly and shifted in, bumping Tornadoes (E. Wilkinson).
