HELLARIOUS HAS HER CONNECTIONS LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK

By Graham Potter | Friday, May 22, 2026

Idiots Anonymous, the registered ownership group of Hellarious, were laughing all the way to the bank when their four-year-old mare made it back-to-back wins by taking out a Class 1 Handicap over 1300m at the Gold Coast on May 22 … after having scored her Maiden victory at the same track over 1150m on May 2.

In fact, they would have been laughing way before the daughter of Hellbent crossed the line because the winning margin was a full 4.05 lengths, which obviously already meant the result well within Hellarious’ keeping some way from home.

And there was more to cheer for those who had taken the $15 starting price (out from $12) … not a bad price for a last start winner.

Other boxes ticked were the positive step up in distance from 1150 to 1300m and the seamless crossover from synthetic to turf tracks, not to mention a vastly increased winning margin.

But trumping all of that was the manner in which Hellarious went about her business from the very first stride when leaving the barriers.

Jockey Mark Du Plessis confidently sent Hellarious into an immediate lead and maintained a strong gallop throughout, stretching the field out behind her in the back straight and in the sweep to the home turn, before leaving all of her rivals for dead in the home straight where her sustained gallop turned the race into a procession with first to last place covering a touch over nineteen lengths.

The fact that this was only the fourth start in the career of the very lightly raced Hellarious, who is already more than halfway through her four-year-old season, underlines the important progressive nature of this result.

While, unusually, Hellarious did not race as a two-year-old or a three-year-old, the Sears team have clearly now got her up and rolling and all she has done in her last two starts would appear to bode very well for the future.
