SWITCH THE STARS IN A CAKEWALK

By Graham Potter | Saturday, April 11, 2026

Few Maiden wins are achieved in as easy a fashion as the win of Switch The Stars at Kilcoy in a QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate over the 800m dash on April 11.

The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained son of Sun City had a quiet introduction to racing, having two trials before tasting race action for the first time with a fifth placed finish on debut when taken straight to a midweek meeting in town back on October 1.

Switch The Stars was then given a break from racing for six months, targeting this Kilcoy outing as his fist-up assignment which he came into on the back of two further trials in March.

Switch The Stars, who jumped as the $2.80 second favourite, speared into an early lead, crossing from a wide barrier, to race along the inside running rail holding a three-quarters-of-a-length advantage in the first half of the race before the 4kg claiming apprentice jockey Archie McColm pushed the accelerator down approaching the home turn … from which moment Switch The Stars cruised right away from all opposition to basically be in a race of his own down the home straight.

The 6.29 length margin of victory told the story, as did the way the balance of the field was strung out over 18.76 lengths back to last place.

Clearly, there was a question mark here about the quality of the runners who Switch The Stars annihilated, but all you can do is win your race … and that is what Switch The Stars did to put that important first career victory on the board.
