TOORAK JEWEL TO BE SPELLED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

Trainer Paul Shailer’s highly promising two-year-old Toorak Jewel will be spelled with immediate effect after presenting with lameness following an exhibition gallop at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The daughter of Tassort won a trial by 9.80 lengths at the end of December and then showed herself to be the real deal when again lining her field in her first taste of race action which resulted in a resounding victory in the $500 000 Magic Millions The Debut at the Gold Coast on Magic Millions day, a race which put a healthy $352 792 in her prizemoney winning bank after only one run.
In the immediate aftermath of that win options aplenty opened with the then likely immediate route being staying at home for The Jewel Prelude and The Jewel itself, but even a crack at the Golden Slipper was not out of the question.
That gamebook was in play right until yesterday, but a media release from the Shailer stable today confirms that the Toorak Jewel’s current campaign has come to an abrupt end.
The release from Paul Shailer reads:
‘Following Toorak Jewel’s Exhibition gallop at Eagle Farm on Saturday, she unfortunately presented with lameness.
‘The issue is far from career-ending, but with a slightly increased risk of injury, we have, after thorough discussion with our veterinary team and the ownership group, decided to immediately spell Toorak Jewel.
'This decision is made with the best interests of the horse in mind, and we are confident she will make a full recovery before returning for future success at the track.'
