HRO AND THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB - A RELATIONSHIP THAT IS MUCH APPRECIATED

At HRO we take nothing for granted. Even though we have been going to Hong Kong since 2017, having the privilege of being granted full, all access media accreditation to cover Hong Kong’s showpiece race meetings, we have always felt the obligation to constantly raise the bar in terms of our coverage to do justice to the elite level of racing on display and the champions … both human and equine … who make the event the great racing extravaganza it is.

That can only be achieved through a focussed and enthusiastic team effort and this year HRO is proud of that effort, coordinated by HRO’s Editor-in-Chief Graham Potter working with the unprecedented quantity of quality copy, photos and videos produced by Darren Winningham and Tim Clayton, the two HRO representatives on the ground in Hong Kong … undoubtedly two of the hardest working media identities in attendance.

While it was not logged, all three members of the HRO team worked countess hours, from early morning trackwork to late night editing and posting across two time zones. If those hours were logged, it would have been an impressive total.

To provide every detail of the coverage would fill many pages … suffice to say that with over sixty stories posted, with one hundred and thirty-five photos posted on HRO, with over four times that amount of photos posted on social media in one hundred and twelve individual posts, with fourteen videos posted, and with one individual photo (Darren Winningham’s photo of a track invader/protester being tackled to the ground) receiving an incredible 138 000, and counting … we, at HRO, are very comfortable that we have achieved the goal we set for ourselves when we took on this challenge once again.

Of course, all of this would not have been possible without the facilities, the free flow of information, the coordinating of activities and the ensuring of the fluent transfer of the media to key locations by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Media Team but, above all of that, it is their friendly and helpful approach to the job they are tasked to carry out, that helped make HRO’s goal of high quality coverage not only achievable, but a pleasure to achieve.
It goes without saying that they have HRO’s absolute thanks and gratitude for a fruitful relationship which has become stronger with each passing year.

It is a relationship that is much appreciated.
