KA YING RISING DESTROYS A WORLD CLASS FIELD
By Darren Winningham | Sunday, December 14, 2025
I said earlier in the week that we should compare Ka Ying Rising to other sprint sport stars. Is he the “Usain Bolt” of the turf? Afterall Bolt has the undisputed world record of 9.58 seconds and the Olympic record of 9.63 seconds for the 100 metres. The fastest human ever on earth!
I think that the question was answered in the HK$28 million Group 1 LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint over 1200 metres at Sha Tin today.
Ka Ying Rising confirmed that he is the World’s Best Sprinter by destroying a world class field on his home track – the cheers and noise from the parochial Hong Kong public was deafening as he cruised to the front and won easily.
The win was his sixteenth in a row and he claimed another statistic winning as the shortest-priced favourite to ever win the race starting at HK$1.05.
In winning the race he posted a time of 1:07:70 and he gave Zac Purton his fifth win in the LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint. He was being eased down by Purton over the closing 150 metres – he could have broken the course record for mine!
After the race Purton was full of praise for the win of Ka Ying Rising saying, “His last run showed us that it was on the cards today,” he said. “He drew the right gate, and when the barrier came out, they said, ‘What do you think?’ and I said he would win by further.
“He is just in a league of his own now. And not having to do that extra work into the first corner from a wide gate to try and get forward, probably helped him.”
David Hayes was proud of his world champion’s performance telling the media, “He was just superb today, the messages he was sending the week of the race suggested he’d do something like that. We are not running fast times today but he did – a lot faster than the other races.”
I think that Ka Ying Rising has proven he is the fastest equine sprinter on the earth!
You know when you have witnessed greatness – this was one of those occasions.
