JIMMY ORMAN ON THE BOARD AT THE HKIR

By Graham Potter | Sunday, December 14, 2025

While Hong Kong’s champion racehorses were further enhancing their reputations in spell-binding fashion … and a host of global superstar jockeys were strutting their stuff … the multiple Brisbane Jockey Premiership winner Jimmy Orman was rising to the occasion as well at Hong Kong’s HKIR showcase meeting, partnering the New Zealand-bred Cool Boy to victory in the Silent Witness Handicap over 1200m.

The Jamie Richards trained three-year-old, who was unwanted in the betting, raced well back in the early part after jumping from the worst of the draw (barrier fourteen out of fourteen) and had to steadied to avoid another outsider Lucky McQueen at the 900m when racing keenly.

These two runners would get close together again much later in the race, when, after ramping up their respective challenges in the home straight, they joined issue in what became a two-horse race over the final 150m.

Orman, who had ridden his horse a treat to get into a winning position, urged Cool Boy out over the concluding stages to ease clear of his only rival with 60m left to run, ultimately holding Lucky McQueen by 0.75 lengths at the line.

Orman already had wins at both Happy Valley and Sha Tin in the bank since his move to Hong Kong, but a win in front of a large crowd on HKIR day … well, that is something special!
