SOSIE PRIMED TO FLY THE FRENCH FLAG IN THE VASE

France’s Vase hopeful, Sosie, is in Hong Kong for his first international assignment, having arrived in good order as he targets the HK$26 million on offer in Sunday’s LONGINES Hong Kong Vase (G1).
The André Fabre-trained colt steps out under one of the most successful Vase trainers in history. Fabre has already claimed the feature Hong Kong race three times — with Borgia (1999), Flintshire (2014), and most recently Junko (2023) — and now eyes an unprecedented fourth victory.
At trackwork on Thursday morning, stable foreman Richard Lambert was upbeat about Sosie’s condition. “He left a good impression on me this morning. He was at ease on the track and remains very relaxed.
"Even heading onto the turf, he knew it was going to be a bit more work than yesterday. In terms of his condition, we are very satisfied.”
Sosie drew barrier 8, a number regarded as especially lucky in Chinese culture — a positive omen not lost on the connections.
Punters have also shown confidence, backing him into second favourite at $3.60, sitting just behind defending champion Giavellotto in global markets.
Ridden by Maxime Guyon, Sosie will look to give Fabre a record-breaking fourth Hong Kong Vase triumph — a milestone that would make the legendary French horseman the most successful trainer in the race’s history
