HKJC RESPONDS TO CITY'S INFERNO TRAGEDY

It is impossible to separate the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) and the people of Hong Kong.
They share a single heartbeat and the HKJC’s input in supporting local charities, promoting community projects … and so much more … underlines a heartwarming relationship that just does so much good for so many.
And when dark times arrive … as they do … that relationship only gets more formidable with their strength in unity reinforcing and strengthening an unbreakable bond.
Having said that, the HKJC’s response to the towering inferno disaster that has thrown a tragic shadow over Hong Kong over the last few days is nothing short of remarkable.
The Club has announced, ‘its first tranche donation of HK$100 million, through its Charities Trust, to support victims and the families of the deceased.
‘The Club has also reviewed all of its operations to ensure that in every aspect of its activities we recognize the terrible impact of this tragedy.’
To that end, there is the respectful decision to tone down Sunday’s race meeting. In their words it will be ‘fully scaled back … held behind closed doors with only Owners, Stewards, Voting Members and their invited guest in attendance … no sponsors … no live music … with all table booking reservations refunded.’
Not only that, the HKJC has also confirmed that, ‘all gross income from this race meeting, estimated to be around HK$70 million, will be donated to support those affected by the tragedy, in consultation with the Government.
‘This brings the Club’s total contribution to around HK$170 million.’
Such a sad scenario, such an incredible show of support.
