FROM BETOOTA TO BIRDSVILLE – THERE'S NO STOPPING SARAH ROBBINS. THE BIRDSVILLE DAY 1 QUICK-WRAP

By Graham Potter | Friday, September 5, 2025

BIRDSVILLE RACES - THE DAY ONE QUICK- WRAP

She didn’t gather any headlines when she rode the Meleah Hill trained Bleriot to victory at Betoota on the previous Saturday, but a treble on the first day (that’s half the card) of the two-day Birdsville Races meeting propelled mature age apprentice Sarah Robbins firmly into the spotlight.

Friday’s results at Birdsville mean that the 2kg claiming apprentice has now saluted in four of her last nine races … and there were no ‘gimmes’ in there with only one of the Robbins’ winners at Birdsville jumping as the race favourite.

Robbins’ Friday Birdsville winners were Luminous Waters, a $6.50 chance trained by Geoffrey Schradar, Bleriot, at $7 on the six-day back-up from Betoota for Meleah Hill and My Symbol, a $3.50 favourtie who was saddled by trainer Jon Taylor.

Robbins also rode two seconds on the day

A special mention is also due to trainer Jay Morris.

The Mt Issa based Morris sent the four-year-old gelding Revolt out to claim a sixth successive victory leaving the son of Russian Revolution unbeaten since he relocated to the Morris stable from the Ryan/Alexiou training partnership.

Four of those wins have come at Mt Isa, one at Townsville and now the Birdsville box has been ticked.

Revolt has been partnered by five different jockeys in those six wins. Kody Nestor was in the saddle at Birdsville.

Two other trainers and jockeys to get on the Day 1 scoreboard of the Birdsville races.

Trainer Rodney Robb and jockey Rochard Bensley got the inside line, quite literally, with their $16 chance Lady Dutton outgunning the better fancied, Tony Schofield trained Dawn Embers ($5.50) in the opening race.

Trainer Neil Dyer and jockey Aaron Sweeney won with Yaki Ishi in the third race.

My Symbol ($3.50) was the shortest priced winner.

Lady Dutton at $16 was the longest priced winner.

My Symbol carried the heaviest weight to victory … 62.5.

Luminous Waters won by the narrowest margin … 0.34 lengths.

In a day of keen racing four of the six races were decided by margins of no more than 0.56 lengths.
