YET ANOTHER TWIST IN THE ANGELA JONES / EMILY LANG BRISBANE JOCKEY'S PREMIERSHIP TITLE CHASE

By Graham Potter | Friday, July 25, 2025

The close race for the Brisbane Jockey’s Premiership just got even tighter.

It was ‘as you were’ after Wednesday’s meeting at Eagle Farm after premiership contenders Angela Jones and Emily Lang landed one win apiece …an outcome which left Jones two wins ahead in the Brisbane Jockey’s Premiership with only two metropolitan meetings left until the end of season, but those numbers have now changed with Lang’s total advancing by one without another race being run.

The bonus win for Lang came about after Galifianakis, the horse Lang rode into second place on April 26, was promoted to first place following the return of a positive swab and subsequent disqualification of the original winner Dillian.

Now, just one win now separates the two contenders.

It is just another twist in an extraordinary premiership showdown between Jones and Lang.

Both riders have served suspensions in recent weeks, but neither will go away.

Instead, the cut and thrust of their battle remains a fascinating watch as they remain on track to take this one right down to the wire while, at the same time, raising the level of intensity of the title challenge to a fitting, final crescendo in what is the closest Brisbane Jockey’s Premiership battle since the late Tim Bell edged out Michael Cahill by one win in the 2013/2014 season.

As has been well documented, the achievement for the Premiership win this season is a big one because it comes with a place in the record books that can never be taken away from the winner … namely, that either Jones or Lang will become the first female to win the Brisbane Jockey’s Premiership … quite a distinction.

The Jones / Lang battle will be resumed tomorrow at Doomben where Jones has a full book of nine rides, two more than Lang who will sit out the first two races of the day.
